Watched it on sky last week, good interview but I just can't believe How big naz has got !

Enjoyed it he is always good value not sure if im convinced he struggled to make the weight for Barrera.
I think he was just out of love with the game and fought for the money perhaps im wrong just think Barrera was too good and he was not at his peak.

The Paul Ingle doc someone posted on here is well worth a look too.

u know what i watched a documentary when he fought barrera and he says in this interview that he was walking around with his plastic suit on to drop the weight,well in the documentary were he wanted the green reyos gloves cause "he wanted them and he will have them" and he never once was seen with this plastic suit on the only thing i seen was him getting his hair cut and him and his brothers takin the piss out of chris eubank who had came to wish him luck for his fight. take your defeat on the chin and dont make up excuses you got your ass handed to you and thats the bottom line,next he is gonna say is he hurt his little toe.

Thanks for uploading. Naz came across very honest. If what he said about the Barrerra fight is true then it just shows you how good he was. He was the complete package for our sport, shame he isn't still around

I agree - wasn't there also something about not using gloves made out of goat skin or something ?

I was a big fan of Naz, burt Barrera broke him mentally then physically.

As soon as he was beaten that was the end of Naz.

Although I was a big fan and he achieved so much, the sign of a true great (like Barerra) is how you come back from a defeat and Naz never did this and as such his "legacy" is massively reduced for me.

I would have loved to have asked these five questions :

1. Why didn't you win more belts at different weights ?

Brendan Ingle said that Naz could have won titles at different weights, ie, Super Bantamweight, Featherweight, super-featherweight, Lightweight and possibly light-welterweight.


2. Why didn't you get a re-match with Marco Antonio Barrera ?

I heard that there was a re-match clause for the Barrera fight, but Naz didn't take up the option.


3. Why didn't you fight Morales ? Could maybe extend that to Marquez, Pacquaio and Mayweather.

Not sure if Marquez and Pacquiao were coming up the weights a little too late for Naz, but i know that Mayweather after one of his fights, said that he wanted to fight Naz. Naz actually spoke of fighting Morales more than Barrera.

4. Why did you become over-reliant on your power ?


Naz seemed to rely or prefer relying on his power as his career progressed. The fighting style changed along the way, from an awkward, fast switch hitting guy who was unorthadox, to a big punching fighter who became a little predictable.


5. Was your psyche build on the idea that you would never lose and that happenning hastened your retirement ?

I think Naz was severely affected by losing the "0" on his record. I think deep down he knew that he needed more than just the punch to beat the legendary names like Morales and Barrera.


Ps He was as arragant fcvk !! I met him and spoke to him before the Manual Calvo fight. The way he spoke to me gave me the impression that he was deliberately trying to be cool and slightly offhand. He lookedd at me like we were having a face off and when i asked him when he was fighting again he said " May de 8 teeenf, n i caaaaaaan't wait " with a look on his face that suggested he may have thought he was at a press conference. I didn't broach the Barrera fight, though i would have loved to, but quite frankly, i hadd all on having what would pass as a normal conversation with him.

Good video though, he does seem to have changed an awful lot since that conversation. That Naz in the video, well, i would happily ask him about the Barrera fight and tell him he once met me and was an arrogant dick lol.

I met him ringside at one of the Burns fights and he was brand new. Posed for a few pics with his fat fist in the air and couldnt have came across any better. I quizzed him about the Barrera fight and he just laughed and kinda swerved any awkward questions but overall he came across well considering he was being hounded by a steaming drunk scotsman for 5 minutes.

Great interview. Naseem is my favourite all time fighter, so exicting, immense power and agility. I would have liked him to beat Barrera, but the loss will never take the gloss off his career before that point, which was brilliant to watch. Barrera was a great fighter and a deserved winner.

Personally, I don't think it was beyond Naseem whatsoever to put on a competative fight in a return bout. Clearly though he was finished with boxing. That night he lost he was up against the best and was beaten soundly on points, but I feel he was not at his best and probably could have done better - his balance was off, he'd left Ingle, was relying on power alone and as stated in the interview had been out of the gym for 7 months with a broken hand and was way above the weight until weigh in day. No excuses at all, just feel there were factors that indicate he had a better performance in him. Despite the negative aspects of Naseem's preparation and strategy he went all 12 rounds and it was not an absolute landslide. We will never know what would have happened in a return fight, but are left with the knowledge that he was beaten comprehensively.

What we also know is that he won belts, was a great world champion, fantastic entertainer and hugely talented. For me, he was the best fighter Britain has produced and one of the pound for pound hardest punchers ever.

I've never seen any fighter since Naseem come anywhere close to creating the excitement he did in the ring.

I also think it was a shame that he seemed to abandon a lot of the skills that were evident in the early days.

I enjoyed the interview but wasn't convinced by his reasons for the Barrera loss. He fought Sanchez in August so if he was out of the ring 7 months he would have only trained a few weeks and he reckoned he had to take 2 stone off in training. It doesn't add up. I also recall that the fight was signed before Christmas and took place in April and he had called Barrera out after the Sanchez fight, yet in the interview he makes it sound like he reluctantly took the fight at short notice.

good shout i remember that "i want eric morales and barrara now" and larry saying "dya think he should be in the ring with you?" and naz saying "he has a better record than morales". i think naz should just pack interviews and documentaries in cause he cant tell the truth haha,his hand looked fine when he was fixing his hair saying "doesnt my hair look good" lol
