The big King's Hall bill in November featuring Brian Magee, Jamie Moore, Dazzo Williams and Tony Dodson, was the first show at the legendary Belfast venue for several years.
Does anyone know when the previous show was? And who was on the bill?

I have Dec 95, Wayne McCullough and Johnny Bredahl, not sure if there were any others in between I will have a look

Bennie, to be honest Im not 100% sure how many times Corbett fought there. Even though Im from Belfast, I never really took Corbett on board or followed him much...................he did not do it for me

If I can find out for you, I'll let you know.

Twice according to my records. Once against Edwards (WP6) and the other 27th May 1995 a loss on points to Roger McKenzie (6 rounds)

No worries, Hawk. You and Kevin virtually answered the question anyway. All of Corbett's big Belfast wins came after December 1995, which means they took place at the Ulster Hall.
As you will know, Corbett is fighting on the April 17 King's Hall bill.

Where did Corbett beat Okoh - it was a nice venue in Belfast (I believe). Obviously not the Kings Hall, just interested to know where (cause I did think it was the Kings hall before today).

Ulster Hall.

He's also boxed at the Mayfield Leisure centre (20th Dec 1997, Commonwealth Title against Robert Norton, WP12) and Waterfront Hall (21st Feb 98 against Dirk Wallyn, WP10) in Belfast.

But as you say, most of his Belfast outings have been at the Ulster Hall, including his loss of the Commonwealth title to Bruce Scott

I always complain about the lack of live boxing in Belfast and Im away in Spain from Sunday and will be away that weekend. I was at the last Magee fight and the atmosphere was great, I'll watch it in a bar in Spain. Can't be bad at that either

I hope Brian Magee gets some meaningful fights in Belfast, on top form the place buzz's when I big fight is on.

I think the Okoh fight was at the Waterfront Hall, not the Ulster Hall

You could sense the atmosphere at the King's Hall in November watching it on the box. Marvellous venue. McGuigan was unbeatable there. Hopefully, Brian Magee can make it a similar fortress.
Richard Williams against Sergio Martinez on the April 17 bill is a gem.

A McCullough night in Belfast is something else...what a buzz and a feeling, its an event like no other. When Wayne was the WBC Champion in the Kings Hall it is something you'll never forget. Even his last fight in Belfast was fantastic, the Corr's were even at it

I hope Magee brings the fights here.

Your right Richard Williams is a good fight indeed, its a shame I'll miss it....... Im the biggest boxing fan in Belfast Id bet too!!


Eubank Vs Ray Close II was another amazing fight there. I used to see Ray running near where I live every day leading up too it and on his car he had a sticker across the window saying "Ray Close Next World Champion EU CAN BANK on it" Ray lived a few miles away from me. Although he is in the USA living now.

Are you one of the famous Rooney family in Belfast? My God, do they love their boxing.

Main places for fights in Belfast now are the Kings Hall, Water Front Hall, the Ulster Hall and the Oddessey Arena, were Jim Rock boxed Takaloo (another great event)

We have the venues if they would only bring more fights!! Problem I seen was that not enough people knew about them. Brian Magee, the average person does not even know his name in Northern Ireland. I think if there was more advertising done, promoters could have some great nights here.

Young Kevin O'Hara is gathering fans, he headlined the Ulster Hall last holloween which was a good night. More fights with Kevin would be good, we need to get a fan following with young fighters to keep it a live. Brian Magee is good for boxing in Northern Ireland, but we also need to get the local boxers on more at home. Again advertising and PR work is needed.

I have a group who watchs the fights with me most weeks, but Im the die hard out of them all. But they are learning!! Its amazing when Magee was on in the Kings Hall the last time and when I said to people I was going, the answer was often "Whos he?" So that shows the work that is need on the local talent.

I have heard of the name Bennie, but in 1983 I was far too young ....I do like to know about boxing history, there have been some hard and good fighters from these shores over the years.

To have beaten Jeff Fenech even in the amateurs for an Irish fighter is something to be proud of!!
