Wayne Alexander versus Takaloo is off (it was set for May 13). Wayne has suffered cartiledge damage to his knee. He's genuinely injured, and can hardly walk.
He is gutted. He knows he has had more than his fair share of injuries and is embarrassed that people will think he is scared of fighting Takaloo.

gutted for Wayne but this is absolute genuine...
he has had a bad knee for about 4 years and had to cancel a fight with Howard Clarke back in the day because of this.....

He always trains with a knee support on but the last few weeks has been in real pain, to the extent that he could barely walk after finishing his road work last week...

Obviously you cannot prepare for a 12 rounder without roadwork and given that Wayne couldnt get to see a doctor till next week it will be a while before he is ok to run again...

I hope Takaloo doesnt start trying to make a situation out of it all.....claiming wayne is scared of him.....


Injuries affect some people more than others....

Paul Gascoigne, Derek Redmond for example were world class athletes who never achieved what they could have done due to their bodies being injury prone.... others never seem to pick up niggles....

I know from my experiences in the gym that some people can put their bodies through absolute torture and never get injured.... Garry Delaney is hard as nails......others arent so lucky

Please don't doubt Wayne Alexander's willingness to fight Takaloo.

Alexander took on high flying Harry Simon at about 24 hrs notice and put up a very brave effort before being crushed in 5 rounds, but not before Simon was wobbled to his boots and Wayne suffering damage to both hands.

When Wayne was British champion no one seemed to want to know. Although he was wild against Paul Samuels when winning the title, the fact Samuels ended up being smashed out of the ring probably convinced a few of the eligible contenders to pursue another career path....I'll mention no names.

I had some slight cartiledge trouble, and it is a nightmare. Ya canna even bend ya knee.

Might take a few weeks to get over that.

It's fair to say, he's as welcome a sight in your rear view mirror as Salvador Sanchez.

Has he definately retired? I know he's probably never going to fight again (because of the court case and a likely big stretch in Jail) but I didn't think his injuries were career ending.

So far so good. Two days to go and no one has pulled out yet.

When I read the title to this thread I thought "Oh no not again!!!!"

I never like to hear a fighter talking about retiement before a fight, like they say "If they are talking about retirment, they are half retired already"

Like I said on another thread I go for Tak's greater fitness and better chin to take him to a mid rounds victory.

if alexander is in the best shape he will spark takaloo.

I agree, if Alexander is in top shape then Tak gets stopped. Alexander in 3 rounds for me.

Yeah, not the sort of talk you want to hear, especially as Wayne also says he's got 3/4 years left in the sport.

Maybe it's just his way of saying how committed he is to winning this fight. I seem to remember Nigel Benn saying he'd quit if he lost to Chris Eubank.

Sadly (I say sadly because I've followed Wayne since his ABA days) I feel his career has stalled sufficiently to let Takaloo in with a good chance of winning. With a wonder puncher like Wayne he's always in with a shout but I too think Takaloo will grind him down well before the twelve rounds are up. Body shots might prove key for Takaloo.

Yeah that's what i think, it's all about who takes the better punch and i don't think Alexander can take a punch anymore. I'm gutted this fight is off, it may affect my weeks scoring on boxingpredictions.net

Its going to be ding dong, but I just think Takaloo's stamina (he still hits hard late in contest, ask Jim Rock and Logan) will do it for him. He will probably get off the canvas to do it.

I predict this will be the fight we will discuss more about when this weekend is over. Well domestic fight, there some great US fights this week.
