Apologies if this is against the rules, but I am looking to buy good bag gloves and I am not sure what brands are decent and how much I should be spending to get a pair that are not rubbish. There is such a range of stuff at different prices and I would appreciate if someone could give me a bit of advice?

Based in Glasgow but happy to buy online.

Cheers

If only you can afford it I'd suggest to invest a lil bit more and stay away from places like Sports Direct. You can buy a decent pair of Everlast, Green Hill or Ampro for 30 quid and the difference will be significant - comfort, quality etc. And they will last longer.

Im fron Glasgow also mate and have used sugarrays for a few years now as suggested by another poster but if you fancy trying gloves on or seeing them in the flesh then look up torra scotia sports, its a bit away from you with it being out in bathgate but got a good reputation for boxing equipment.

I'm new to boxing training and i'm looking to get all the equipment I need at the moment. I've seen on a few websites like http://www.proboxingequipment.co.uk/boxing/gloves/ that there are sparring gloves, bag gloves, fight gloves etc...I didn't realise there were so many different types, is there one type I can get that will do it all since i'm a beginner? Thanks"

If you are just training on the bag and sparring/pads you just need some big gloves, you dont need 10 oz (fight gloves) unless you are fighting am or pro. 16 oz will probably do you. The make depends how often you intend to do it, if you're going to do 2 or 3 nights a week you want a good pair. I bought a pair of Ergo 16oz from boxfit a few years ago for £55 (IIRC) and they are still going strong with about 1 night a week on average of use. I'd say that a bullseye is the lower limit for what you should spend to be honest, you only get two hands and they have to last you. Dont skimp on the wraps either get proper long ones so you can be secure and comfy.
