I got my ticket money back for the June 29th cancellation. However the insurance company I paid £1-50 to for my 2 travelodge rooms will not pay out. They says cancellation of sporting events do not fall into the claim category.

It should not matter what the reason is, if you have paid money for insurance to ensure a refund they should give it. Write to them mate

Get a Doctors note the day before to say you cant travel due to back problem, they will know you are having them over but cant go against the doctor.

Day before doc, note from him, send it to them and see how it goes, nowt to lose, very rarely do these clowns take on a doc

I'm onto the insurance company as I was told to cancel the rooms and put in a claim. This was misinformation and incorrect. I could have sold those rooms on Ebay or gone to Manc on the 29th and had a night out.

The insurance has so many clauses by the way, only way to claim is death (of me)

Don't worry about it, Haye has cost us all a bit over the years. I lost about £400 on his "Setanta" back and wasted a lot more when he DID turn up in Hamburg.

Anybody who pays up front for a hotel room to a boxing event for the sake of saving a few quid deserves to lose their money IMO

Tell them you'll refer the issue to the financial omnusben (sorry spelling), right or wrong they have to pay a case fee to them which will be a lot more than the £120 you're claiming. Politely point that out.

Ticketshafter wouldn't give me my money back when my brother's opponent pulled out of a fight in Dublin, chief support. They couldn't understand that I didn't want to fly all the way to Ireland and stay in a hotel.
In the end I got my money back.

cant you cancel travel lodge rooms way in advance and get a full refund anyway?

yep i work for an insurance company they will always buckle for that amount of money even if in the right.

I used to work in travel insurance and it was killing us in the end. Must admit now I don't I've used that line a few times!

I’ve cancelled them 24 hours before check-in time with no questions asked.

I booked a saver room and the insurance. You have to basically die to claim the insurance. Ive called the ombudsman service but there isnt a hope in hell as the insurance company are based in Malta so they cannot help. Robbing bastards, my 2 rooms are now up on the travelodge site for 72 quid each. so they made 120 from me and going to resell at 72 per room.

Im confused by your post, usually you just pay a deposit for the rooms and can usually cancel and get a full refund as long as you give a few days notice. Are you saying you paid in full over a month in advance and cant get a refund from travel lodge even though the bookings would have been for the 29th which is 3 weeks away.

Is this a bullshit post?

It is none of the hotel's business what you've booked your room for.

There is no reason why you can't cancel a booking like this with weeks to spare.

Write to the CEO of the company, not the customer services department: also, see what the Citizen's Advice Bureau have to say about it.

You can get your money back easily - sounds like the insurance has been mis-sold and travelodge cant justify keeping money for a service not rendered especially without being fully booked. Just stick a claim in on the small claims website it only costs £25 and you get that back when they pay you out.
