Anyone remember this guy and does anyone know what he's doing now?

Remarkable fighter, fought eliminators at FOUR weights before getting a shot at the British Welterweight title, a lot of good names on his record, numerous fights abroad and almost made his century (a rarity in those days)

he was a tough kid, I remember watching him box Jimmy batten @ Wembley, with a mate, we ended up ringside, even tho we had a cheap 'up in the gods' tickets

Billy was renowned for his defensive boxing ability. I watched him fight Chris Pyatt in 1983 and he befuddled the Leicester youngster for much of the fight but Pyatt's desire won through in the end. Ironically, Billy was tipped to beat Henry Rhiney when he secured a belated shot at the British welterweight title but Rhiney proved too good over the old 15-round course.

I remember Colin Jones was annoyed that Waith told him that 'he had forgotten more than you will ever know' and it made Colin more determined than ever to get the KO

He used to run a local parks football team not far from me going back about 15 years ago and I know he then had a pub in Cardiff also. Aint heard about him in a while though but will ask around......

I remember Billy very well, classy boxer who should have won far more than he did. There is a mistake on his boxrec record because I was there when he boxed Andoni Amana in Spain in 1978. It's got the fight down as in Bilbao on the record here but it was in Miranda de Ebro on the undercard of a European title fight between Colin Power v Fernando 'Chino' Sanchez. It was a strange town, half-closed, because of a local fiesta. Billy turned up in a caravan the day before. He'd been on holiday in Spain and somehow got the call to box Amana, who was too big for him. He didn't care about that. I asked him some kind of dumb, wooden question about how much training he'd done. 'Not much,' he said. 'But I did run backwards on the beach yesterday so I should be all right'. He lasted into the sixth before Amana's strength got a bit too much and it was stopped. I don't remember him being really hurt, just worn down.
