Anyone know?

I think it's Dennis Andries, certainly in the modern era. I think he was the oldest to win it.

There may have been older holders back in the pre-war days, I know that Billy Wells was around forever but think he was only in his early 30s when still defending his British title.

Yeah it's Andries he was 41 when he won the british cruiser title in 95.

I think Skelton could be the oldest to contest a British title.

Against Terry Dunstan if my memory serves me correctly. And I can't think of anyone else older than Matt Skelton when he went in with David Price either...

He won the vacant title against Denzil Browne (who used to work with a guy I went to college with) and lost it to Dunstan in a controversial decision, they had a rematch which was slightly less controversial and much wider on the cards. Then he got stopped against Nelson for the same title.

I remember those 3 fights against Harding, they were brutal.

He fought Crawford Ashley and I remember Boxing News reporting it as a mighty oak against a sapling.

I read somewhere he turned up for his BBBoC award (after winning the WBC title) with it in a plastic carrier bag after travelling on the tube.

my brother mark was with him about 2 months ago at a leba meeting in Holborn and he said that dennis is doing well and still looked fit

Cheers Darcy, good to hear. I remember seeing Dennis skipping and he was built like a brick wall, must of been near 40 then.

I saw him at York Hall in the late 90's wearing a pair of dungarees with no shirt. He looked like you would hurt your hands more than him if you hit him. He was stood right at the back...
