Scott Quigg and Frampton debacle

Now Quigg has signed to matchroom and Frampton has just left matchroom to sign with FW, this fight looks like it's never going to happen! This kind of shit is why boxing is a marginalised sport!

It can happen but only if it goes to purse bids. If the fight doesn't happen, I will be blaming Mc Guigan. The writing was on the wall for a while that Quigg could leave Hatton due to inactivity and Matchroom was the obvious for him to end up.

Is it inconceivable that Mcguigan knew Quigg was going to matchroom and so go t out so as to avoid the fight? Certainly looks a wee bit strange. I'm not suggesting Frampton is avoiding Quigg, just a theory that Mcguigan might not want it yet.

I've got more faith in the Syrian Peace talks than I have in purse bids, if one of the sides isn't happy with the result then the fight won't take place (purse bids not Syria)

Yep, makes the sport irrelevant. The only fights the normal public have bothered getting out of bed for is Froch-Kessler, Haye-Chisora, Haye-Wlad. They only care about big fights, not Quigg vs some decent guy or Frampton vs some other decent guy.
Man Utd can never avoid Arsenal, Barca can never avoid Madrid. That exites ppl. Frampton vs some Canada or Aregentinian doesn't

Nail on the head.
Regardless, they are just a couple of snacks to Rigondeaux at this moment in time.
I think all involved know that him and/or Donaire are a step too far right now for both of the lads.
So what on earth are they going to do with them both now, if they're trajectory's are no longer aimed at one another ? it's the only fight that matters to the paying public.

The fighters are both on different paths now and as a consequence they'll be pushed independently towards a World Title and that will be based upon the Promotor's relationship with the relevent body. So that looks like Quigg targeting the WBA and Frampton the WBO.
The fight would then certainly happen if both held a "World" title.
Now I know there is a certain Rigondeax in the way ........................

I think Eddie Hearn will still try and make the fight personally.
Ringside and Sky were really pumping it too, so will be backing him.
But right now, it possibly is looking a little bleak.

I agree with your general point but I'm not really sure how much the general public will care about Frampton-Quigg, it's very much a fans fight IMO.

Sky could hype it. Both sell tickets. DeGale-Groves ended up on PPV and at The O2 when neither were as established pros as these two. Would do well in Belfast and Manchester.

I think it will do well too, but Groves-Degale had Degale, a gold medalist who is far more well known than either Frampton or Quigg are over here, no idea about NI. I just can't see it being anywhere near as big as that fight at the moment, not that I wouldn't be excited about it, I've been waiting ages for that fight.

Frampton is a big thing over there, apparently.

I'm sure he is but this fight isn't going on PPV if it gets made at all.

Gomez,
That's why it needs the World title label I referred to earlier - and a unification label even better !

Degale groves was only ppv when headliner cleverley headlining fell through several times in fight week IIRC. No way Sky would have marketed that as ppv on its own from inception.
Quigg v frampton is nowhere near ppv level. Not even close. Your average sports fan has probably never heard of either.
However for us lot it is a cracking fight. Can't see it happening anytime soon though, Barry Mac has sunk too much time and money to risk a quigg fight before frampton gets a world title.

I think it could happen but only in NI on a frampton topped bill. McGuigan wants to make frampton a bigger name than he already is over there so carnt see him fighting anywhere else (other than his next fight which is in london) anytime soon

Clev was the nominal headliner against Braehmer. DeGale-Groves was the main fight all along. Sky would have ran with it alone. Clev barely got a mention in the promotion adverts.

Well we know now that it won't happen until at least five (Frampton) fights time due to the allegedly deal. By that time one or both could have lost as they seem to be on the verge of world class and there will be few if any easy nights for either. If that's the case in most probably two years time, will anybody really care that much. Fight should have happened by now, probably after Frampton beat Martinez as was the perfect time, both coming off career best wins.
A fight in Belfast would have been massive, would nearly needed outdoor treatment in Belfast as Odyssey holds about 11,000 max for boxing and the rivalry between the pair is well known. Sad to say but would be surprised if this ever happens, at least not in their primes.
