tommy v derry

Got to say the ifilm interview from Hull was class, the two guys really don't have time for one another and I think this will be a good fight for as long as it lasts.
Experience from Derry and youthfullness from Tommy, ive seen both guys close up in the gym and ive always said Derrys skill set is underated and his body shots are very good, whilst Tommy is big for the weight, good workrate but hes not the hardest to find due to his lack of defence.
I would have liked to see Tommy have one or two 10 rounders under his belt first, in saying that a title shot come on offer and hes took it which suggests hes confident enough.
Its a big step up from anything Tommy has fought before and I think that will be in the back of his mind, this is a fight he wont be allowed to dominate the way he has against lesser opposition, he will land and get hit back many times.

Good luck to both :TU:

Looking forward to this one most of all on the Hull show. Derry has a bucket load of experience and is a massive step up for Tommy.
Tommy's confident though but you'd have to say that Derry starts as a strong favourite.
This has the potential to steal the show IMO.

Without a doubt the fight im looking forward to, looking from a neutral here is what I think are there strengths and weaknesses.
Derry has experience over the distance and has been in the trenches several times some good some bad but most importantly hes been there, he punches the harder of the two and punches well to both head and body. Derry also has long arms and may well dictate behind his jab for periods of the fight.
Tommy is still a little inexperienced, he has a good work rate against the opposition he's been in against but he will get hit more times in this fight than all the others put together just because the level of opponent is much greater, Tommy will need to tighten his defence, Jamie mentioned the boxers vulnerabilities this is the biggest one in the fight.

Yes Derry is sparring Ricky this week they have sparred before about 18 months ago.
Derry is a popular lad up here, I agree if Derry loses his options may be limited and if Tommy losses obviously he can come again although losing in your home town in front of your own would be very hard to take

Saying he has no chin is a bit unfair. Derry certainly isn't chinny. I'd say he's more susceptible to body shots if anything.

This is another great match and I expect it to be a war while it lasts. Who wins? No idea, I'm just looking forward to sitting back and watching it.

What about the Lindsey knockout? He was out cold and Lindsey isnt that big of a puncher.

Saying he has no chin insinuates he gets KO'd regular and can't take a shot which simply isn't true.

7 of his 8 losses have been via stoppage. Clearly they're all via head shots but if you end up being stopped 7 out of the 8 times you've lost then there's something going on.

There have been stoppages due to cuts and body shots in there too so no, saying "clearly they're all via head shots" isn't true either. Hey I'm not saying he's got a solid chin by any stretch but he's by no means "got no chin".

Derry got marked up bad in the last Crolla fight and Coyle can be rough on the inside maybe a bit dirty looking at his record there's been a few warnings in fights so this could get Messy

That was meant to say they're clearly not all via head shots.

I see people's case for saying Derry is chinny simply by looking at the numbers on his record - but like I keep saying - you cannot simply look at records all the time to establish a true and rounded verdict on anything in this sport.

Such as a couple were injuries - like the broken nose against Rees.

And he is not as fragile since he moved up from featherweight limits to full lightweight. Yes we saw him up and down against Choi (a very decent operator) and that might have given plenty an opinion of his resistance, but I think his resilience has been a lot better of late.

I think he was campaigning too long at a weight class he couldn't sustain himself at properly - and has now grown into a decent sized lightweight who can hang with most and shock the odd fighter along the way too.

Khan and Enzo are chinny, you see their legs wobble and the eyes goes round in their head when hit - not Derry, he seems fully aware when he's hurt - and credit to him, he often pulls himself back up !

The Rees broken nose was Technical Draw

Not fair to say Derry has no chin , not making excuses for him but I fully agree were you say look at the fights themselfs rather than just the number of stoppages on his record

He got off the floor 4 times before finally being stopped by Choi, I know Lindsay isnt a massive puncher but it was an almight swing and shot that caught him and he was very drained at 9 stone

he was stopped on his feet by Marsili and was very unlucky in the ramogadi fight as it was a bad decison to stop the fight,

id say the one stoppage that puts questions on his chin was the scott lawton one but derry did avenge that loss and took a lot of shots of Lawton in the rematch that didnt seem to bother him so maybe the first fight being at SFW rather than LW was a factor

I think this one comes down to levels and i believe derry will not only have too much expirience but also too much skill for Tommy at this level and he will be pulled out mid to late rounds

:bag: :box:

This is a geat fight agree that Derry is a good technical boxer very under rated but Tommy is better.. I believe Derry probably hits harder. I won't sit on the fence here though like a certain person ha.. I going for Tommy on points..

Who's sitting on the fence if your thinking Billy im sure I read he thinks Derry will win and with DM sparring Ricky today he's not going to say TC is he   this could end up like Prince v Limond fight one with loads of work rate and the other with cleaner shots
