If not them...whom? Henry Armstrong? I have to say Leonard and Duran come to mind here for more contemporary fighters.

If Sugar Ray Robinson had a weakness, it was a tactical one. He lost a few close decisions at MW because he stood and traded for long periods with guys he could have outboxed.

I think some fight fans tend to disagree with SRR being the greatest ever, because it's become such a common belief.

But seriously, the guy was incredible. Definitely the greatest.

Elmer has started this thread several times. Wait until he drops the real bombs like Eusebio Pedroza being a better all around fighter.

I rate Langford & greb ahead of Robinson and wouldn't have an issue with Armstrong or Charles. That's as far as it goes. They're a pretty clear Top 5 to me.

This is where polecateddy comes in and tells us that Ryan Rhodes was far superior to Robinson as a boxer.

Agreed. I think some people get tired of hearing that he was the best as if he was light years ahead of everyone else. There are some guys worthy of comparing to him. However, he was phenomenal and could do it all and did it for a long time.

There were a few men I was more impressed with in their primes than I was of Sugar Ray Robinson. Wilfredo Benitez wasn't called the "Bible of Boxing" for nothing. Willie Pep was all but untouchable for many years. Harry Greb for what the records show was probably the most consistant fighter of any weight class in history. Then again, at this stage of the game we are really splitting hairs here because the seperation of greatness between the all-time elite is down to the atoms. Jesus bless.

I believe Sugar Ray Leonard was more complete than the original Sugar.
