After the second fight with Lloyd at the Olympic (Lloyd stopped Barajas in 4 rounds the second time around) Zovek was taken to a hospital where it was found he was suffering from mono, and what was described as a, ahem, "social disease."
Barajas' manager Harry Kabakoff claimed this is what caused Barajas to fall apart so quickly after he appeared to be marching toward a title shot.
But Zovek was never the same after being belted out twice by the hardhitting Philly fighter, social disease or not.

Not sure it was exactly romance. Barajas had a fondness for Tijuana, and I don't think he found love there. But a social disease....easily.
