i must admit i have never liked ali as a fighter or man , i'm not saying Ali wasn't very good fighter but i hate it when people call him the greatest ,he wasn't he had bad technique and took why to many punches ,he struggled with norton who won at least two of the fights .
Ali made his name from beating slow powerfull fighters like liston and foreman who were taylor made for the quick Ali ,
as for the foreman fight i have never seen such a bad heavy weight champ as foreman that night in zaire he was like a 3 fight novice ,can you imagine lewis or vitali punching them self out in 3 rounds of course not ,what if frasier had carried on instead of futch pulling him out would will still think the same .
i can see that Ali was a special fighter but the myth is now bigger than the man and many consider him unbeatable even thou he was beaten while fighting .
ok so now i have got that off my chest what confesions do you have .......

I wanted McGuigan to box Azumah Nelson; I got fed up with all the talk of him being the best at the weight and avoiding Nelson like the plague. Azumah would have destroyed Barry and I wanted him to :(

The Joe Frazier trilogy was some of the most dramatic and brutal scenes in sports. The pace that the first and third were boxed at was superhuman.
It's fine to have your own opinion and not subjugate to the masses, but to dismiss Muhammad Ali, claim he couldn't box, and disregard Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Zora Folley, George Chuvalo, Ernie Terrell, Jerry Quarry, Oscar Bonavena, Joe Frazier, Jimmy Ellis, Joe Bugner, Ken Norton, George Foreman, Ron Lyle, Jimmy Young, Earnie Shavers and many, many others is, in my opinion and I'm sure the majority, untenable.
I wouldn't use Vitali as the opposing end of the argument. He looked like something out of the nineteenth century against Lennox Lewis. You cannot compare the body of work.

A myth doesn't last more than 20 years - unless its name is Jimmy Savile.

i never said Ali couldn't box rather that you can not have an objective arguement about Ali as people like yourself have Ali on a pedestal where he become more of a myth than a real boxer the same has happened with harry greb

This thread is as retarded as your thread about Boners dad and Danny DeVito in Current Scene. Well done, in less than 100 posts you've highlighted yourself as one of the biggest idiots on here

My boxing confession .....
I bite my tongue (or fingers when on a keyboard ) far more than i like to ,to prevent offending the amount of tossers there is involved in the boxing world from amateur , unlicensed and pro .
I dont have an anonymous name so when i say or type something its out there for all to see and causes far too many headaches to be worth the hassle

I don't have him on a pedestal, I just recognise an elite fighter with a sizable selection of high quality scalps when I see him.

Good combo.
Gilbert and Sullivan would've been better monikers for Spud and Lightsoot, given the amount of comic operas they produced.
The image of Spud onstage belting out "My gallant crew, good morning" from HMS Pinafore with us posters as the chorus is one i enjoy
Spud
My gallant crew, good morning!
Boxrec Posters. (saluting)
Sir, good morning!
Spud.
I hope you're all quite well.
Boxrec Posters (as before)
Quite well; and you, sir?
Spud
I am in reasonable health, and happy
To meet you all once more.
Boxrec Posters (as before)
You do us proud, sir!
Spud
I am the Captain of the Pinafore!
Boxrec Posters
And a right good captain, too!
Spud
You're very, very good,
And be it understood,
I command a right good crew.
Boxrec Posters
We're very, very good,
And be it understood,
He commands a right good crew.
Spud
Though related to a peer,
I can hand, reef, and steer,
And ship a selvagee;
I am never known to quail
At the fury of a gale,
And I'm never, never sick at sea!
Boxrec Posters
What, never?
Spud
No, never!
Boxrec Posters
What, never?
Spud
Hardly ever!
and so on
go and youtube it.
