GGG v Martin Murray 2nd Nov?

As reported by Boxrec, GGG has specified Murray as his ideal next opponent.

When in the studio as a pundit for Sky, both Murray and Barker were somewhat impressed by GGG's demolition of Macklin, with Murray joking that the way to beat him would be to "Take a baseball bat".

We already know about Murray's Visa issues preventing him from taking a fight with JCC Jr previously so this may not even get off the ground, but if it does materialise, will Murray take it? Does he stand a chance? Will he better Macklin's challenge?

Although Macklin has been operating in the US for the past couple of years, and has challenged courageously in his world title bids, my personal view is that Martin Murray is the best British middleweight at the moment. I believe he bettered Macklin's challenges of Sturm & Martinez and would better his challenge of Golovkin, although I'm not overly confident on anyone's chances against GGG at the moment. His accuracy & power in both hands is frightening.

I'm really interested to know other fight fans' views on this potential fight!

My personal thought is that the person who beats Golovkin has more power than Martin Murray.

Of course. He would also need to make sure his affairs were in order.

Murrays defence will mean the fight will last longer than macklin but still wouldn't give him that much of a chance of beating GGG best he could hope for would be to last 12 rounds?

To be fair i think Macklin put up the best fight he had in in him. He went in there he threw his shots but was ultimately outclassed. I wouldnt be surprised if Murray is taken out around the same time as Macklin if he was to fight GGG

Agreed but I hope he fights him. Like you say he has a decent defense, keeps a good shape and will be more measured in his attacks than Macklin was.
Although that may have been due to Golovkin chasing him around the ring trying to club him to death.

I've gone GGG on points. Murray has got a good defence, has decent power -dropped Sergio twice and is definitely the best of the British trio. However, Murray seems to have found a way not to win his biggest fights so see GGG doing enough eye catching work to shade the decision.

Another Brit taking a pay day to challenge himself against the best in the division? What happened to the days of being handed paper titles and defending against little known African mandatories for years on end? This sport has changed and I'm not sure I like it.

Neither do the British Middleweights! I bet Quillin and Geale have got Murray and Macklin on their to do list. They will all be shot by the time they get to meet each other!

A fight with Golovkin in the states at this point in his career would be unnecessary, Murray is 9th or 8th for the ibf title if he beat Soliman he could challenge the Geale vs barker winner in Australia or the uk.

People are getting a bit carried away with power lately (Matthtyse, Stevenson, GG). Power can be overrated and people like Ward, Mayweather, Hopkins, Calzaghe spend/spent their careers proving that. Murray has already pulled off two shock performance so I wouldn't count him out completely

Two shock performances ending in defeat.
It's about results.
Bad move for Murray. Should he lose, where does he go ?
Easier routes to take leading to an extended career.

This is a bad style match up for Murray. I think he'll cope with GGG's pressure even worse than Macklin. I see him just covering up when Golovkin gets too close (which will be immediately) and quite possibly getting the same bodyshot that Macklin did.

Murray is a huge lump of a MW but doesn't fight like it. Most opponents who aren't comfortable in close range and/or don't have a high workrate probably get run over by Golovkin.

At MW, outside the very best I think it will take a very tough swarmer like N'Dam to give GGG problems.

Murray could earn a small fortune - nobody else fancies the job.

If he couldn't get a visa for Chavez jnr whats changed?unless the come over here which wont happen.
If Martins looking for the payday rather than a title then good move but I think he will lose.
If he still in it for the honours he should fight the winner of Barker Geale.
I think he beats Barker not seen enough of Geale to say who wins that one.

He maybe has more time to go through the visa process. Loads of criminals are allowed in, they just have to go through the correct procedure.

Team Murray have denied any offers and certainly any date / location.

But did mention they'd been emailed to see if Murray's visa situation has been resolved.

It hasn't and is still in motion. So i guess it's still "watch this space" unfortunately.

Martinez is nearly a 40 year old man and was there for the taking. Sturm was also ripe for the picking and just picking up pay days for a retirement package. Murray got the job done against neither. Golovkin is lookin like he could be better than both Sturm & Sergio, and hits as hard as cruisers. I wouldn't give Murray much of a chance. There's few middle i would give a chance though, to be fair, maybe Chavez.

I understand your points but from a lot of fans and experts perspectives, he got the job done against Sturm, and lots think the same about the Martinez fight. Although its the judges' decisions which gift the official result, I don't think two blatant home-fighter friendly decisions going against MM can be viewed as him 'not getting the job done'. If anything they make him even more deserving of recognition. He still put Martinez on his back twice, and outworked and outboxed Sturm for 2m30s of all 12 rounds (a la every Sturm fight). Only on pure size and ability to take a punch do I give JCC Jr a better chance than MM. He was massively outclassed against SM, and other than a great final round, offered nothing in comparison to MM's challenge in Argentina to make us think he's anymore deserving or capable of challenging GGG. That's challenging though, not necessarily beating!

He's been defeated once.
