He beat Paul Butlin last night for the international British masters title.

But the Scottish tabloids do their usual over hyped pish and say he's made history by becoming the first Scottish British heavyweight champ. Does my fcuking nut in this type of bad journalism.

As I posted in another thread, Carl Greaves said he has never been as cheated as he was last night. Got counted out from a blatant low blow, apparently.

I agree the Daily Record have put a bit of a spin on the victory "Power-packed display from Gary Cornish as he becomes the first Scot to win a British heavyweight title".

Whilst the article starts of a little misleading they do go on to confirm "The giant Highlander floored Englishman Paul Butlin with a fierce body shot seconds from the end of the fifth round to win the British International Masters title."

I'm actually surprised the fight got any coverage. On one hand I want to congratulate the Daily Record but on the other hand slap their wrist for over hyping the win.

Yeah I read the same. I think Gary caught Paul low on the Refs blind side and the rests history.

Havin watched Gary a few times didn't realy rate him then few weeks ago him and his trainer came down and he sparred Chris Hightower burton seen better improved highlander with the right fights and sparrin he could be in the mix

It's the same journalists that claim Lee McAllister a 2 weight world champion. The fickle non boxing public may believe it but it's farcical.

He's a raw prospect trying to make the best of his ability; time will tell if he can make it work. I hope he does he best with what he has!

Yeah her names Melissa apparently. Works at Hooters. Not wise tho given he has a fight coming up. Women weaken legs and all that.

Lee McAllister has faced hardly any class, never mind world class.

Having went to the fight I personally witnessed Paul the mouth Butlin run his gums both on the Internet and at the weigh in. He under estimated Gary Cornish as have many in which Paul wasn't only beaten but embarrased. My friend videoed the onslaught in which Gary threw at him which included the body shot !!!!! That threw him to the canvas . PAUL BUTLIN WHO ARE YOU !!!!

To me that looks low. Butlin may have good reason to be pissed off at being counted out by such a shot.

Watched it numerous times and that was clearly a low blow. Paul may not have the best of records but he's been in with far better than Cornish. Paul had not won a round up to that point but the game plan was to take Gary into the later rounds and then start taking it to him which he was starting to do. I'm very disappointed in the outcome I'm not saying Gary went low on purpose but that goes down as a ko loss on Paul's record when clearly it wasn't. Boxing can be rarely cruel sometimes and I no that if Gary can be truthful to himself he knows that was low.

More than low enough that it should have been noticed by the ref. Cornish is yet to prove anything as a pro.

The thing is as long has Tommy Gilmour gets paper space to lead us to beleive Gary is a top Heavy ( which he isn't) the public won't know any better coz he's fighting with respect a total journeyman in Inverness for a nothing title?
Tommy played the same cards with Ian Mullarvie and the never came to nothing but at least Mullarvie was talented

all you need to ask yourself is why didnt team Cornish accept Alex Morrisons offer of £1k a round versus Stephen Simmons a cruiser weight?

Whatever happened to Ian Millarvie? Seem to remember something about a fight in states a while back but never seemed to happen.

On the subject of Scottish heavies, what's Dereck McCafferty doing these days? He was durable.
