Lennox Lewis and David Price

What are your thoughts? Is this just an ego ride for Lennox? Did Lennox looking like he was taking over from Smith between round affect Price?
I remember on Ringside Lewis pointing out all the things Price had been doing wrong which 'he spotted'...always read that as calling his current trainer incompetent.

I think Lewis was a truely brilliant fighter but I used to listen to his HBO commentary and think to myself a lot of the time "wtf is he talking about?!"

Lewis told him to use the ring more and stop putting his head down low to evade shots. This idiot in his corner spent a minute (with Price hurt) telling him to keep his hands up.
Poor use of Lewis' knowledge, tbh. Should've been in the corner instead of that PE teacher.

Lewis was the one telling Price to stand up though in the corner when he was clearly exhausted! That's not smart!

Lennox should've been in the corner to see and hear what was going on.

It shows what choas was in the camp as no-one seemed to know who the trainer was

Personally if i was in the corner id have told Lennox to feck off instead of him trying to shout instructions , i know that was kind of the point but he undermined the trainer and therfor contributed to the confusion

I think the problem was that Price isn't good enough to carry out Lewi's instructions. Once Price gets hit, he reverts to type, which is come forward throw bombs and have a brawl. Instead of doing that against a Tom Dallas or an Audley, he was up against a guy who has fought at world level in title fights, was experinced and crafty. I have to say that Thompson looked awful aswell and as for his post fight interview, what a twisted cunnt.

And when it went wrong King Lennox walks off smiling and high fiving people, while the camp and Price pick up the pieces

True, he wanted a smack in the mouth for his comments.

having Lewis undermine his trainer was a very amatuer set-up for this fight & camp. Both Price & Lewis should have known better themselves how unprofessional it was. Then Maloney comeso ut and criticises the set-up and admits he didn't want the rematch.
this whole thing has just been a complete mess since the first bout was signed. You don't go McMuffin > A-Farce > Skelton > Thompson. Price went into world-level Thompson with a total of 8 rounds boxed in his previous 2 years against poor domestic opposition.

He didn't, though. You're forgetting Sexton.

Lennox is a professional. He tried to help, was clearly gutted when the fight ended, but composed himself to show respect to fans who may never get the chance to see the champ in person again. Don't see the problem.

But is he a camp member or not? They were the actions of an interested spectator, instead of a man who was being painted as a joint trainer...It was Franny Smith and the rest of the camp who were in the changing rooms distraught. Lennox was happy getting the adulation of his adoring public.
Now am I being harsh on Lennox? Was he such an integral part of the camp that he should have been more affected/with David, or is was he just a name brought in as an advisor who could happily wash his hands of it? The fact is I don't know because the camp was complete chaos.
All I know is that on Ringside, Lennox was painting himself as the new trainer, didn't name check Franny, and just moaned about all the things David was doing wrong before Lennox Lewis and David hooked up.
For me it smacks of him being happy to take the credit if David won, and happy to leave the shit to Franny Smith if it went wrong, so not to be dirtied by faliure

Pity he didn't prove it, isn't it?
Another fight essentially gone now, I suppose it's possible after Fury loses to Haye but the money and interest a fight between the two could have generated has largely gone now.

It's a bigger shame for Price. He will probably never earn the type of money the fight would have generated five months ago. Fury, on the other hand, is going to get a lot more against Haye.

I think a lot of you overhype the local heavyweights.
That would be Sky's fault though.
Beating 40 year old Belfast taxi drivers, or part time opponents in 3 round TV events does not mean you're decent opposition yourself.
Who exactly had Sexton beaten before he fought Price?
Look who he's fought since.
Like Price, he's never fought outside the UK, and probably never will, unless it's to make a travelling buck in a few years time.
Just because they're on Sky TV does not mean they're decent.
This was Prices problem.
Stepping up from that mediocre level into a fight with Thompson was daft.
Before we forgot, this is who he fought 12 months before fighting Thompson, for the English Heavyweight Title.

Like going from the swimming pool into open water; it's as well he didn't bypass Thompson into a title shot.

Price has to accept most of the responsibility for the loss, but his manager and chief trainer have a share as well. Going against a seasoned veteran like Thompson for the first time after knocking over third-rate locals was a huge mistake. The second time was just plain stupid greed. Price had no plan B if he couldn't knock Thompson out with his first big punch, and one training camp under Lewis wasn't going to fix him. That dufus in Price's corner was totally at a loss once things weren't going their way, but the problems started much earlier if he's been handling the kid from the get-go.

Lewis says they have to improve his stamina, saying it could be down to nervous energy or low blood sugar, what a load of shite, if he has poor stamina then the training wasn't right.
