No, it's a reflection of the fact that the algorithm used by computerrank to calculate the points can't take into account quality of wins. In other words, the fact that Byrd looked like crap against Oquendo and only won because Fres looked even worse still translated to a clear points win for Byrd. And with Lewis and Vlad gone, since Byrd hasn't lost recently, he moves to #1 by default. On the flip side, the fact that Vitali gave a valiant performance vs. Lewis and was leading on all the cards at the time of the stoppage-on-cuts doesn't get reflected at all in the ranking, because the formula can only take into account that in the end it was Lewis by TKO. In other words, a computerized ranking lacks subjectivity, which has both its good and bad aspects. The good is that it can't easily be manipulated by people with an agenda. The bad is that it can't subjectively handle nuances, such as that most people would probably agree that Vitali's loss to Lewis should be worth more than Byrd's win vs. Oquendo.

The man has beaten Tua, Holyfield, and Vitali Klitchko - at this moment it is a fair and worthy ranking.

I say the Klitchko vs Sanders winner might have an argument, espcially if the South African comes out on top (as he's never lost to Byrd), but at this moment Byrd is the best Heavyweight.

Its alot better than having Wladimir at number 1.

Yep - good points in Byrd's favor.

However, since Sanders and Golota are similarly ranked, if both Vitali and Byrd win their upcoming fights, Byrd will remain ahead of Vitali. That also seems reasonable - best way for Vitali to move ahead in the rankings is to avenge his loss to Byrd.

Agreed. That was another thing that made no sense whatsoever subjectively, but in terms of the computer ranking, Vlad had piled up enough points prior to the loss to Sanders that subsequently beating two padded-record stiffs was still just enough to keep him at #1. The reason the 2 stiffs had as many points as they did was that the BoxRec ratings formula overvalues wins - if you're a top-ranked guy, beating a guy who is second-rate but has a nicely padded record generally gets you more points than losing a close fight to a genuinely highly-ranked guy. Same reason Hatton and Calzaghe are ranked #1 in their respective divisions.

Harrison's pro career might be one big "if" aswell, he hasn't got to that stage yet - if only he had a chin might be one of the "ifs"

De La Hoya had his last bouts in light middleweight. He should be ranked there until he has fought at a different division. So his prior ranking move to middleweight was corrected, I think. He will move again after his fight against Sturm.

He was ranked #1 ahead of Winky all along, but somehow (maybe computerrank can explain why) over the weekend he got moved to the 160lb rankings, at #1 no less. Sometime yesterday he got moved back to 154, which expalins the "NEW!!!" icon next to his name there. It's all rather mystifying...
