Fights that made you sad or even cry

Any fights you guys watched that made you sad? Or Cry?

I just finished watching Ali vs Holmes. I've been putting it off for a long time and just seen a few highlights because I thought I shouldn't watch it in its entirety. This is the only fight that I can think of that made me sad man. The only success Ali had was ducking some punches in the first couple rounds. Then in the middle rounds he was at least dancing and moving a little bit but he was no where in the fight and throwing probably single digit numbers in most of the rounds. I seen Ali land one good over hand right in the early rounds I think it was in the 2nd or 3rd.

I knew it would be sad to watch but not this bad man. I wish the ref stopped it in the 6th at the very least. First off I wish the fight never happened but in the 8th-10th he was taking a huge huge beating compared to the other rounds. The last rounds were just too sad to see man.

Only other fight that made me kinda sad was the Martinez vs Williams 2. Felt real bad for Paul because he's such a nice guy

After watching Ali Homes I'm kind of glad Tyson blasted him the way he did. Holmes was show boating to Ali and it was sad to see Ali like that. I have no doubt ali would have finished the fight. It was like he would rather die in the ring than get stopped. Guy had so much heart

Showboating? He was calling in the ref to stop it.

You obviously never watched the fight. Go to youtube and watch the fight. In the middle rounds he would put his hands down and shake his hips and open his mouth and taunting Ali. I like holmes but after stuff like that you lose a little respect for them. Thing is Ali was old and showing signs of parkinson's. I'm not saying that deep down that they both didn't respect each other but at that point in the fight and he was way ahead and doing stuff to rile up Ali is plain stupid.

Do you know why he was putting his hands down etc in the middle rounds? Because he wanted Ali to make a fight of it.

When someone puts their hands down, mouth open, shaking their hips and is obviously talking to Ali you know they're show boating. Watch the fight kid. If he wanted someone in there to make a fight out of it he wouldn't have picked an old ali who showed signs of parkinsons.

No, what you know is that he's got his hands down, his mouth is open and he's shaking his hips.

You don't know why Holmes did those things.

I have heard Holmes say in an interview why he did them and he said he was trying to get Ali to make a fight of it. That's how I know.

The first fight I ever saw was The Thriller in Manila on TV. Then I watched as much boxing as I could watch.

I just recently watched Ali homles, before that was ali vs doug jones. That was a pretty close fight. Doug Jones landed some pretty hard shots but at the end of each round is when ali would open up and throw some great combinations. I could see why some people thought Jones won but I thought Ali edged it by a round or two. That was a decent scrap

Didn't mean to call you an idiot. Just get a little heated sometimes. My apologies :TU:

A man ain't a man, unless he's willing to apologise. No worries bro. It's all good.

I think prime Frazier would give prime Holmes one hell of a night.

I was just thinking about that fight earlier today. I kept thinking could Frazier get in on the inside and stay on the inside to trouble holmes? If there was one man to do it, it would be Frazier I think. I wouldn't know who to pick honestly. I'm still salivating about Tyson vs Frazier. If only we could have seen that fight :box:

Holmes-Frazier would have been fascinating but I have to go with Holmes in that one.
His terrific jab would constantly interrupt Frazier's rythym and ability to get off. When Holmes needed to he could move. And of course, he wasn't above tying up fighters when he had to, and I suspect that's what he'd do whenever Frazier was able to get inside.
Frazier was a tough fight for everyone, unless you're named Foreman, but Holmes would prevail by unanimous decision.

Holmes was showboating against Ali. Why even argue that he wasnt? That being said who cares? Its ok for Ali to disrespect his opponents throughout his career but suddenly when hes on the other end its not ok? B.S. Tit for tat. I remember when Calzaghe did that to Roy Jones and all the Jones fanboys cried foul. As if Jones didnt mock most of the hapless cab drivers, Walmart greeters, garbage men, and rent-a-cops he chose to fight. Suddenly when hes in against someone who can beat him its not ok that hes taken advantage of? What goes around comes around.

I usually don't have a problem with show boating because sometimes its fun but when it's against an aging legend who shown signs of parkinson's and was already taking the beating of his life, that is when it's plain ridiculous. Holmes was already laying it to him, why the extra boating?

Pryor vs Arguello I.....I wanted the great Arguello to win his fourth title. There was nobody more deserving. And of course, when my beloved Duran quit against Leonard in New Orleans. :verysad: :verysad: :verysad:    :( :( :(

Won't forget the date. Aug.2 1980.
Ferocious welterweight king Pipino Cuevas bravely entered the lion's den in Detroit to take on the Motor City Cobra Thomas Hearns.
My heart still breaks at the thought of Pipino being blasted out by 2 huge right hands in the 2nd round.
I still believe that if Cuevas could have gotten inside, he would have broken Hearns in two.

here is what holmes really thought about ali
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4BieYkK7ns

but what happens within a fight with all adrenalin
and so ... i would not be too hard on larry, please.
it was still a WBC heavyweight championship fight.
and holmes was not the one in that ring famous for
taunting opponents.

it is a travesty that ali got a license for so long.

Is it OK that Ali taunted an injured, out of depth Patterson? Religious beef may explain it but it doesn't justify it.

What goes around comes around. I'm pretty sure Frazier didn't find Ali's games "fun".

Dude, I like your posts less and less all the time. I can tell you're a fan, but maybe tone it down a little.

I remember that was one of the first big fights I showed a buddy of mine who has since become a major boxing fan himself. I was a fan of the up and coming Wladimir and I was praising how good this guy was all through the buildup...and then Corrie Sanders knocks him down 4 times and stops him with ease in 2 rounds

Naturally my buddy laughed his ass off at me, but I think that the wild unpredictability of that happening is one of the things that helped make him the fan he is, so it was all worth it I guess.

Ali versus Holmes was sad

As was Gatti and Gomez

Some fights I have seen as a fight fan and would be historian also made me sad, like Carnera and Schaaf--- you literally could see the life running out of Ernie as he laid on the canvas. Poor Primo for believing he killed Schaaf, when in fact Ernie had been having brain problems for some time and kept it hidden.

Louis versus Marciano is also quite sad, and so was Louis and Charles.

Alot of ill-advised comebacks and hangers on's make me sad too, like Bowe doing Thai boxing and simpleton shit like that. Jerry Quarry's comeback in the 1990's was especially sad when he was told he was going to play the part of a boxer in a movie, and was suckered into an actual fight when the bell rang and some small town palooka beat him from pillar to post and gave him real brain trauma.

I know Tyson and Lewis made him especially sad, as it was the first PPV I ever bought and it wised me up to the fact that Tyson was completely shot and that this sport is more about skill, calmness, and composure rather than power and ferocity. Seeing Tyson beaten to a bloody pulp and knocked to the canvas was one of the saddest moments in sports I ever seen.

I get mad when people thinks its ok to showboat to a living legend and a guy who will in peoples hearts go down as the greatest of all time and who at the time was showing signs of parkinson's.

Look man I don't wake up in the morning hoping that I please gilamesh. I could give a crap what anyone thinks about my opinions. These are my opinions

I don't mean to come across as half crazy or an arse hole but I'm just passionate about the sport
