I've been doing some research and noticed that Kiko Martinez is fighting Jonathan Romero for the IBF Super Bantamweight title on 17th August. Now given that Martinez got stopped by Frampton in 9 rounds in February for the IBF Intercontinental title and has only defeated a relative journeyman in the mean time, surely this shot should have gone to Frampton?

Can anybody shed any light on the situation? Did Frampton turn down the fight?? I know a possible fight with Rigondeaux has been mentioned for September so maybe this has something to do with? What about Matchroom?

Its kind of been covered in previous threads.

I saw in an interview that Matchroom had got the shot with Romero for May, but the Frampton team waited too long on it and it was never made.

Reasons why they waited? Well I will leave that upto your imagination.

You serious?! Not a smart move if that's the case. You dont want to be fighting Rigondeaux in your first world title fight! The guy is a super talented guy. Props if they do take that fight though.

You serious?! Not a smart move if that's the case. You dont want to be fighting Rigondeaux in your first world title fight! The guy is a super talented guy. Props if they do take that fight though.

Had not heard that mentioned? Nor do I think it has any chance of happening, they surely aren't looking Rigondeaux for another year at least (if ever).

I havent heard it mentioned either. Ive actually heard Mcguigan and co saying they wouldnt want that fight yet as Rigondeaux is a special world champion. You dont want to be fighting him in your first world title fight though.

It is interesting that Rigondeaux's bloke said he had offered Fr@nk W@rren the fight? Would it not be McGuigan who he needs to get in touch with?

I think santa cruz, who vacated the IBF bantam title, will be a player on the scene for this title at 122.

reckon he'll eventually fight romero, and perhaps emerge as the champ.

good fight for Frampton to go for, perhaps. certainly more winnable than rigondeaux, who is very difficult to hit and despite his age, has pernell whitaker level of agile, southpaw boxing ability.

Wasnt the Frampton/Martinez fight for the European as opposed to the IBF Intercontinental? i do seem to remember Eddie mentioning something about the IBF being vacant after the bout

Frampton v Santa Cruz has all the ingredients of being a barnstorming classic. An even match up between two top quality fighters would blow the roof off the Kings Hall.
