Looking at the BBBofC's notices for upcoming British title fights, it states that Saunders vs Ryder and Smith vs Ochieng are both scheduled for 21st September.

FWP's show will be at the Copper Box, London and the Matchroom show at Sheffield Arena (presumably they're planning something for Brook).

If so, I find that quite annoying, as Matchroom only put one show every 3/4 weeks and FWP once in a blue moon. I wouldn't mind if there are shows on the weeks before/after but I doubt that's on the cards.

Hearn is developing an annoying habit of putting shows on the same night as other promoters, forcing people to choose between the two.

Yeah, the BJS fight has been announced for that date for a few weeks, at up to this point nothing had been said about a Sheffield show on the same date.

Plus the prizefighter last week and the April 20th show clashed with Warren's Wembley bill and Fury's US debut.

Good point. My good will towards Nice Guy Eddie is starting to be eroded bit by bit.

Aye and Price-Thompson 1 clashed with the Audley prizefighter as well. It is a bit annoying like.

why should Hearn care which other promoter is on the same night?

If he thinks he can get the views then fair enough. If he doesn't then lesson learned. He has a lot of fighters to promote, maybe there is a reason behind the dates.

Is it not a case of Sky saying to Eddie "this date" and he needs to fill it?

It seems unusual that after winning, then losing the purse bid for Saunders-Ryder he chooses to put his own show on the same night.

Don't really think he would care about that to be honest. Its hardly the exposure Ryder would have got on Sky anyway.

I think a really good point was raised above anyway in regards to Sky setting the dates.

It's possible, but other than La Liga, do Sky generally have much going out live on Sat nights than attracts many viewers? (That's not a rhetorical question btw, I really don't know).

Why so many shows that clash, when BN have shown so few domestic shows this year? Bit too coincidental for me..

Sky will give him the dates to fill. Load of rubbish saying they have one show every 5 weeks or so as they tend to have 2 or 3 per month. September they have Burns on the 7th, Brook 21st and Haye on 28th.

They average about one every two/three weeks throughout the year - their contract with Sky is for 20 shows throughout the year.

I assume they might ask for an extra date for a special circumstance, i.e. a PPV show such as this or Froch/Kessler.

Probably just to give himself a legitimate excuse not to be ringside on a Warren show

I do agree though it is annoying and seems a bit counter productive. I mean as is always being said on here the viewing figures for boxing are not huge so why would you risk putting on a show when a few thousand viewers will probably watch the other channel? Whereas if you did it the next week you'd probably get those viewers too.

With Sky plus, you can watch both.

perhaps hearn thinks that show will fall thru and he can go to the board and have the fight moved on to his show both lads want it, wud b an option, wudnt b the first show of fw to fall apart and get pulled. just a thought of mine

I'm just speculating here.

If I was in Eddie's position, and my main rival was allegedly dying a slow commercial death via his struggling tv channel, i would deliberately stage my shows on the same date as his, on the basis that I can outlast him, and his shows will suffer, even if its a gradual, slow burning effect. It may be a "death by a thousand cuts" mentality but business is cutthroat at times.

Also, if I was Eddie, and after a while this plan wasn't working, I might start asking around for Terry Marsh's phone number. See if he fancies another crack at it

That's even better, no waiting around between fights, hopefully one will lead into the other, but a later start for the Geale-Barker fight is closer to primetime in the US and would give a start time of around noon down under.

That's what i was thinking .... Its a shame that it happens but usually if there is a ratings war then its either TV or advertising that is pulling the strings...
