turning down world title fights- carl frampton

would anybody else turn down a chance to fight one of the best boxers in the world in your own city,

if frampton won he is on the p4p list and also hbo or showtime,, massive money

if frampton loses he is still at where he is just with one defeat to one of the greatest fights on earth,,

stike while the iron is hot,, boxers get hit and anybody can beat you,, ~(like the fall of david price and his career is in bits now)

losing to rigo is not bad and turning down a world title in your back garden is just stupid and sums up boxing

Did you expect him to fight Rigo? Frampton isn't ready and to be honest I expect him to tale an easier route to a title. His big fuckup was missing the IBF shot, turning down Rigo is easy.

Frampton is no where ready for that fight .... the money is not important imagine what shattering confidence sapping experience that fight would be ..being taken apart by who is arguably one of the better fighter on the planet... thank Christ they said no...

how can you call yourself a world champion if you are afraid to fight people

everybody thinks to much about the 0 in boxing

Andy murray does not win every tennis match
tiger woods does not win every golf tournament

It would go one round. What is the point of that?

Sorry its not about the O or anything to do with that....using other sports as an example is not what boxing is about.. why do you think boxing is the only sport that you have named ranks of people to go through to reach the world titles... like journey man.. gate keeper .... prospects ... contender etc think there is 10 or so.. its about confidence and that is done slowly.. if you start gunning for the very top the elite in rigo before learning the trade you arent going to last very long...

Another example of boxers not wanting to fight and test himself against the best and try cherry pick there way to the top. This is what is wrong with boxing and why I have absolutely not sympathy for someone like brook (after turning down Bradley for the easier alexander fight.....then karma stepped in). Frampton has even had more pro fights than the guy. Why cant every fighter be like froch??

I don't think Froch actually wants the Ward rematch as much as he says.

Surely if you're in Frampton's boots your more annoyed about the situation with the IBF and Kiko Martinez?

He does want it, and I think your going to see it in 2014.

However, Ward has serious promoter issues. Goosen refused to attend a HBO meeting if Dan Prince (Ward's manager) was there too. Now Ward has tried to elope to Top Rank for a Chavez Jr fight - but I believe the California State Athletic Commission has now upheld Goosen's contract with Ward.

There is talk of a date in September on HBO, but who knows who it's against and whether or not Ward will fight at all- and instead will pursue Goosen through the courts.

Fair enough.

It seems a common these boxers moving promotors and swerving world title/unification fights. Ricky Burns, Kell Brook and now Frampton spring to mind..... didn't Tony Bellew swerve a rematch with Cleverly too?

I think froch'd fight anybody once - and if unsuccessful, his pride/arrogance would make him go for it, again. i believe he meant it when he wanted to rematch bute, to prove the domination was no fluke (and because lucrative), rematch Kessler (since done) and ward, the latter 2 for revenge and reward.

I think, while things are so good for him, there's 1 or 2 fights he could have (groves) that if sold right could enhance him more over here and underline that he's the man that ppl have to come to. ward could be the boogeyman, but other fighters are rising to stardom - such as golovkin, who could move up - and we keep seeing dangerous contenders emerge, like Stevenson who moved to 175 and this guy Edwin rodriguez...froch has his hands full, as i see it.

Rigo is a magnificent fighter and will be well avoided in that division, the beating he could give you could end you career,I'm sure Carl and Barry will be a little more selective

It's not the same, if Carl Frampton fought Rigo and took a confidence shattering beating over 12 rounds, its not "no big deal because you lost to the best", that could be the end of his career in 17 fights

can't compare it to Andy Murray who is the same age and has had over 500+ pro tennis matches and is only in his prime now (and by the way only won his first major last year) no fornicating way is Frampton ready for Rigo, it's not about the 0, it's about not taking a humiliating beating from one of the worlds very best that could possibly end his career when he's only just reached Euro level

No, it wouldn't. Rigo is not that good.

I dunno about one round, but he looks pretty special to me.

Frampton would have learned a lot more fighting Rigondeaux than he would by fighting anyone else, and it would have been a brilliant fight to put on in Belfast. The chances are it would have made him a better boxer.

It's a shame that the boxing game pays too much attention to unbeaten records.

Yes Rigo is a top quality boxer but Frampton is young enough to come again if he loses. He loses no face and has fought one of the best fighters pound for pound in boxing. If he wins the world is his oyster he becomes a superstar earns ridiculous amounts of money and can gets the big star fights everyone wants.
