Amateur Boxing Scotland have issued all club coaches who also have Professional licences with a letter stating as per Technical Rule 16.1.2 "Any coach active in professional boxing will not be allowed to be a coach/ or second in AIBA competitions at any level unless this coach has resigned from any involvement in professional boxing for a period of at least 6 months & is certified by AIBA as a registered coach".

Some things never change in this country. The self interest and corruption of amateur boxing is one of them; whether its the abs, saba, sabf blah blah blah useless self preserving a-holes.

They hinder rather than help boxing in this country, probably put the lotto funding in their own pockets to justify their sad little existence. Time for a clean up.

I think that applies to amateur boxing all over the world.

I wonder how many clubs this will affect in Scotland,there are many gyms with both Professionals & amateurs,I would imagine it be even more severe down south.

It does nothing for the relationship between the pair especially when AIBA have now created a professional organization?doesn't make sence to me

To sum it up Macho Man,if your a trainer and running a pro/am gym you need to choose either or,and if guilty of doing both you face a ban from AIBA

Why are the amatuer trying to alienate the pros? Working with pro can surely improve our amatuers... this is retarded

Three of the top coaches in the country train pros/ams in Peter Harrison,terry mc cormack and there own development coach Danny lee,absolute crazy the Scottish ABA

This sort of thing has gone on for donkeys years; didn't Brendan Ingle get into trouble from the suits for allowing amateurs and pros to train together - in the 1980's; I'm sure they made his life really difficult - it is plain silly and self defeating.

i thorough that myself ? I wouldn't class it as a crisis . From what i have seen , most of the Pro/Am Gyms have more than one coach in it =but there may be expceptions.

The bitching in the ams is really bad, I've been told by a top guy that he won't be allowed to work the corners in the ams if he continues to train pros,a total joke these young lads look up to him for guidance and reassurance and the SABA will be taking that away,shame on them.
I'm lead to beleive that's already the case in England

When there is not a lot going on policing these rules keeps the lottery cheques coming in I'm sure.

Boxing is one of the few sports that has an enviroment where ams and pros train together etc. For me it benefits both groups of people, the ams obviously learn and develop from experienced individuals and the pros build fanbases through this aswell. How many guys drag people along to fights saying "a guy from my gym is fighting tonight"

Still doesn't make it right Alba I'm the only coach in my gym with Amateurs and pros,pen pushers in blazers who have never set foot in a gym in their puff are running our sport that us Amateur coaches spend many hours 50 weeks of the year coaching and mentoring our boxers from school age till its time to go pro,then getting told you're boy has to now travel 30 miles to the nearest pro gym to further his ambitions,if you've never run an Amateur club you won't understand the anger and frustration

I'm in the process of doing that at the moment Macho Man but theses things take time each volunteer has to go go thru a disclosure vetting process that can take up to 6 months to complete then they have to obtain their Coaching Badge which can take just as long to obtain so it looks like my club won't be active this season and that's no good for the young boxers

i coach at an amateur club,i put in for my pro cornerman and trainers licence,ive got to go to course on the 31st aug at billys gym,im not in a great hurry to be anyones cornerman,but put in for it,in case in the next few years if any of our laddies did decide they wanted to give the pros a go,theyd at least have someone they know and has been with them through the amateurs,honestly cant understand this from the saba

The AIBA have the same rule, that's why McCracken wasn't in the corner during the Olympics.

Imagine if this happened in football? ie the PFA banning a football team because Sir Alex offered to help his local village team train on a Wednesday evening.
Would the PFA say his helping is detrimental to football?
