this fights gotta happen.
pity it isnt for the national heavy title. it is unusual in recent years, but the quality matchup of these two fighters would actually add credibility to the national heavy weight title.
leapai by 2nd round ko. alex just goes too hard for most fighters. not many can survive his early onslaught. covering up doesnt work with alex as his overhand right cracks skulls. you have to trade with him. offence is the best defence with alex. hes a dangerous fighter. a good figher. browne will have to prove he is the goods to beat leapai.

Let me be clear, I like Lucas as a fighter and a person seems like a top bloke. Met him couple times. I just think a guy like Leapai is all wrong for him. Leapais relentless come forward aggressive attack looping punches etc and power will cause Browne no shortage of problems! Lucas looks good when hes controlling the tempo of the fight against guys like Leapai he wont have the luxury in my opinion. Certainly be an interesting fight. And Browne has never ducked a tough fight!

For both boxers' their credibility will always be questioned while they continue to avoid each other. These two need to fight for the Aust heavyweight title for the sake of their own careers and the integrity of the Australian heavyweight scene.
They are clearly the best two heavyweights in the country, all Australian boxing fans are super keen to see it happen so let's get it on.
I would like to see Lucas Browne step up his conditioning regime. He is strong but it's built on bulk rather than muscle. He could be a hell of a lot fitter & stronger in the upper body, giving him another 20% power behind his punches. In his current shape, he would have problems with Leapai for the reasons mentioned by N2 Shape & popeye1.
A much fitter Browne would change the dynamics.....and possibly the outcome.

I agree with this 100%. Everybody knows that styles make fights, and Leapai is just all wrong for Browne.

I think its a 50/50 fight. Lucas didnt look good last weekend, i think he was carrying to much weight. If he comes in at 115 he will be that bit quicker and may catch Leapai. Both guys have knockout power. So it really depends who lands first.

To me that is the big issue. Lucas has to get in shape if he is going to have a crack at Leapai. He was slow and looked lethargic. If he can get that snap back and get quicker on his feet (I know he is no Ali!!) that will give him a much better chance against Leapai. If Lucas chooses to go into a fight with Leappai in the same shape as last week, it would be a short night for him.....

The way of it these days. Local fighters with decent records tend to avoid each other. A loss against the other reduces their appeal as headliners. No one wants to risk a loss anymore because of the negative reprecussions amongst fans and the sports media. A few losses were nothing back in the day and were expected of serious competitors. Now lose 1 single fight and you're labelled a bum.
