Best Card Ever?

On another thread, a poster opined that the Mayweather-Canelo showdown is the "best card ever."
That bout, along with Garcia-Matthysse, makes it special, but as of now, it seems to fall short of such a lofty superlative.
I offered that the Ali-Spinks rematch at the Superdome in 1978, easily surpassed the Mayweather card. It also featured title defenses by champs Danny Lopez and Jorge Lujan along with Mike Rossman upsetting Victor Galindez for the light heavyweight crown. It was shown on ABC live. No coughing up $65.
Others preferred the Carnival of Champions in 1982, featuring Hearns-Benitez and the legendary Pintor-Gomez brawl.
Also mentioned was the 1980 extravaganza (also on free television) featuring Larry Holmes, the Leonard-Green KO for the ages, Eddie Gregory stopping Marvin Johnson, and Mike weaver dramatically toppling John Tate in the final minute to win the WBA heavyweight title.
I now offer the so-called 1975 Triple Crown Spectacular as another example of a fight card besting the upcoming Sept. 14 bouts.
Presented on closed-circuit were Ali defending in Kuala Lampur against Joe Bugner; Victor Galindez once again getting the best of Jorge Ahumada (they fought 5 times) for the light heavyweight title; and Monzon taking out the so called "Whiz Kid" the late Tony Licata for the middleweight belt.
The later 2 bouts were held at Madison Square Garden.
Any other historic super cards out there that make Canelo-Mayweather, Garcia-Matthysse seems like another night of FNF's?

That is a great card. One of the best ever. Was this one called the "Carnival of Champions" card?

One of my favorite boxing card programs was Ali vs Spinks II undercards.
Also the Leonard vs Benitez program was very good:
Hagler vs Antuofermo I
Marvin Johnson vs Victor Galindez

Was thinking of that one too. Also live on free TV

There were a few in the 30s that were really amazing, but can't recall the specifics.

I consider that card good, but I'd take the 3/31/80 card over it.

The card where six of the '84 Olympic team turned pro, not necessarily good fights or decently matched but six embryonic talents that would go on to have mixed fortunes.
Ricardo Lopez often featured well down on those stacked DK cards in the 90s. One of them had 5 or 6 world title fights on, ok so they were mostly stacked in DK's favour but you're unlikely to see so many names on one card.

That 1980 card along with the 1978 Ali-Spinks rematch card were probably the 2 best cards of the modern era televised on free network television.
Having a card like those today on an over-the-air free network would do wonders for the popularity of boxing.
Modern boxing was at its zenith in the 70s and early 80s when Ali made frequent free home television title defenses and the networks telecast many boxing cards in prime time due to the frenzy surrounding the 1976 Olympians.
Today's Olympians do nothing to further interest in professional boxing.

Indeed, there's been one Gold Medalist since 96 (on the men's side).

Another one that was on Live Network TV (ABC) was in November 30, 1979.
3 title fights:
Ray Leonard-Wilfred Benitez
Marvin Hagler-Vito Antuofermo
Marvin Johnson vs Victor Galindez
Thomas Hearns beat Mike Colbert but it was not televised.

Excellent card; elmer mentioned it.

That was an amazing card. There I saw the great Sugar Ray Leonard fight for the first time live on TV. He impressed me very much against a top ten opponent. I saw clips of Leonard a week before the fight with Price and I said this guy is gonna be a hell of a figher. And certainly he was.
The perception of the times was that at welterweight, Duran was gonna lose to Leonard if both fight. Duran was slow and unimpressive against Zeferino Gonzalez, but Leonard looked superb against Price.
I don't remember Jimmy Young vs Michael Dokes in that card, though.

How about this one on March 23, 1979:
Holmes-Ocasio
Norton-Shavers
The fights were over so early that ABC showed a rerun of "Battlestar Gallactaca" to fill the time.

Here is a good card, but it was PPV
Frankie Randall vs Julio Cesar Chavez II
Jesse James Leija vs Azumah Nelson II
Terry Norris vs Simon Brown II
I forgot the last fight, it was also a rematch. It was called "The Rematches"
