Roman Greenberg in action tonight in New York

Roman comes back from a fairly lengthy injury lay-off against Bronx Heavyweight Jason Gethers.
The 6'3" 230lb Gethers has been out of the ring for 18 months himself, his last fight being a fourth round stoppage loss to Joel Scott.
Gethers record of 6-5-1 (4) is not as bad as it looks. He has faced some reasonable opposition and appears to have a decent punch.
Greenberg, with bags of skill and confidence will start a heavy favorite, but what with the layoff, injury (which has healed) and the fact he was floored in his last fight, makes this fight (IMO) more interesting than it would usually be.
Have any of you blokes seen Gethers in action, if so, how do you see this one going?

Ive seen Gethers a couple of times. He looked really good when he in a brutal way kod Nick Nurse in the first round and in another fight he outboxed and dominated his opponent in the 1st round but ran out of the gas in the 2nd and was stopped himself. Maybe an erratic dangerman is the correct description of him. He seems to have some talent, but not the dedication and stamina.

Another test of Greenberg's chin then. Thanks for posting.

Does anyone think that cos Greenberg is a Jew that he's gonna get big backing behind the scenes as well as in the limelight?
Example - CNN (the big cable network from the US) had a feature on him on World Sport (their sports news show) and I can't remember the last time I saw a boxer on that.
I'm just saying, cos it's well known that Jews carry weight in Corporate America.

Funny you mention that, it's for that reason I was thinking the other day that I'm surprised Greenberg never turned pro in the US, his support and backing would have been phenomenal.

Greenberg kept his undefeated record with a sixth round TKO of Jason Gethers, knocking his man down twice in the 6th.

Roman turned pro in the UK because Robert Waterman discovered him and Robert, of course, is based in London.
Some of Romans fights have been in Miami, which has a large Jewish community, and he got a big turn out for his fights there.
Once he gets to a high enough level, say top 10, I reckon most of his fights will be in the US, as then the mainstream Jewish community, will have a world class boxing representative.
Also, Roman is white, (although, white Heavyweights fighting for HW titles is not as rare as it used to be), so if he gets to a high enough level he will sell tickets wherever he goes.
From a purists point of view, he has a lovely style to watch.
From a media point of view, he has real star quality, is intelligent, articulate, some would say handsome, and has a very good sense of humour.
He could become the Anna Kournikova of Boxing, but hopefully winning more titles.

Sounds like a reasonable workout, i was worried when karlo said that Gethers had run out of steam in the second round! But it seems it was a false alarm and his stamina was not all that bad...Greenberg needs to step it up and he seems to be fighting all over the place to gain support and recognition, he is a fresh addition to a stagnant division.

He really is a joy to watch. He moves so well for a heavyweight, sometimes you would forget he's 6'3 230. However in the few fights I've seen of him, he really panics when he gets hit. And those guys that were in attendence last night said the same thing.
I would really love to see him step up, how about a Garing Lane-type

I'm not surprised that he panics. He is still fairly new in the pros, and I don't think he had any extensive amateur career. Plus he is REALLY young. He has a long way to go.
His biggest advantage is that he really is YOUNG. I mean really, really young.
Not many boxers today seem to be below the age of 25.

Him being Jewish is the main reason he's getting all this hype. I've seen him a couple of times, and although he's got some nice skills, he's no world beater. He may be young with plenty of time to learn, but people thinking he will be a dominant heavyweight are clutching at straws.

You're right. We should put all our faith in Danny Williams and Audley Harrison

Agree with everything you said although you can stick your 'Anna Kournikova' analogy
Never had you down for that type when we met....

Harrison is alot better than Greenberg that's for sure. He maybe moving a little slow, but he'll go further than Greenberg.
