Since Mares is a feather now and has beaten PDL, I think this is a legitimate match to raise. Thoughts on its outcome?

Peak Hamed beats Mares with his unorthodox style and killer punch.
Mares looked strong at feather against Ponce de Leon, but he still gets hit too often, not something that would play out well against the Brit.
Today, there's a tendency to dismiss Hamed because of his poor performance against Barrera, but for several years in the 90s and early 2000s, he was one of the most dynamic fighters in boxing.

not to mention it wasn't the one sided beatdown everyone likes to remember.

Hamed claims he was dead at the weight. Said the whole training camp was just about making the weight. he needed a tune up after the injury layoff.

I do remember it as pretty one sided...

It was a boring fight that was scored 115 - 112 with Hamed landing the only big shots IIRC. Barerra fought a very smart fight and was the better man but I wouldn't call it a schooling of any sort. If he was dead at the weight and the whole camp was about making weight maybe he should have tried training in between fights etc. I really feel as much as he achieved he still wasted a lot of his talent.

I think he was when he was younger, Some of his early fights you can clearly see he is enjoying what he is doing not to mention is in excellent condition.

116-111 MAB for me, and remember, MAB blew a point in the last round when he slammed Hamed into the ring post.

I had the Barrera fight 8-4 when I watched it again last year. 115-112 with the point off but it wasn't remotely close.

He couldn't because he had an injury. That's his story anyway. Hamed felt that with a tune up first he could have won the fight.

Such a disappointing performance. I expected Hamed to go out swinging.

From all reports though at some point after he won his first world title he stopped training in between fights. I can't remember where I read that but.

He definitely seemed to stop improving. Just seemed to expect his power would always get him out of trouble.

he sure did when you look at his style from when he beat robinson even maybe a couple of fights before and then compare it to the augie sanchez fights its worlds apart.

I think Hamed was too good for Mares.Mares not Barrera,i doubt that anything could Mares countered.Naz too fast for him.
