Wow what a shock that was still don't beleive there is no thread on this guy this morning.

Frampton set the blue print to beat him but Romero got caught on the ropes far too much. He used his range well in spells but Kikos heart and strength was too much. He was nothing short of a beast last night and fairplay to him.

Scott Quigg must fancy his chances now. Carl Frampton well its pretty obvious he would have been fighting Romero last night had he been with Hearn. What exactly went on we don't know but he must be annoyed seeing a guy he is clearly a superior boxer than win a World title. Instead his next fight is against someone who went 12 rounds with a guy Scott Quigg beat with ease after 8 months out !!!.

Still not to critisize Carl he will get his chance and take it but hats off to Kiko he earnt it last night as did Darren Barker.

I haven't watched it yet but I'm glad he won. Hopefully Quigg or Frampton get a shot now, I would love either to take a title, we might finally get to see the two of them fight.

Well done to him. Surprised at Romeros performance. Surely he knew kiko would come out all guns blazing but he seemed to have no idea.

Given how easily he was beaten by him, I'm not sure he'd want to fight Frampton straight up in a first defence. Quigg has a shot at the WBA title next month and will (almost certainly) not unify in his first defence as WBA Champion (assuming he beats Salinas).

I think we'll see Kiko defend and probably lose, with the new champion defending against Frampton sometime in 2014.

He got a mandatory first up against Mathebula within 3 months. February earliest next year.

Brilliant performance, just caught it on Sky and that was quite something - he was ultra-fired up and just would not be denied.

This fight for Jonathan Romero vs Kiko Martinez was an voluntary title defence, meaning when someone i.e Romero has the option 2 make an voluntary title defence, Romero had the option 2 chose anyone in the top 15 rated 122 fighters, in the IBF rankings, Romero offered the fight 2 Martinez. Romero was under no obligation 2 fight Frampton, Frampton is not the mandatory, & even if Frampton was the mandatory, he still would of not fought Romero last night night. If Frampton was still with matchroom/Eddie Hearn/spy sports, it would be no different, he would't of got an title shot against Romero, as Romero chosed Kiko Martinez as his voluntary defence, which can be anyone in the top 15 ranked IBF 122 fighters, Romero didnt want to fight Frampton unless he had to.

In Boxing News Romero said one of his bad habits was spending to long on the ropes, looks like that came back to haunt him last night. Well done to Kiko though, he's been through the wars to get his title shot and went for it with gusto last night.

Kiko has done it the hard way and is a real threat I think Frampton win showed us how good Carl actually is

No, it was a very hard fight. Absolutely text book shot by Frampton to finish it though. Walked right on to it.

Maybe easy is the wrong word, but it was a fight that Frampton was in zero danger of losing. It wasn't a fight that had anyone demanding a rematch.

I reckon Martinez would knock Quigg out. Quigg as good as he's been up to now has shown vulnerabilities around the whiskers and I dont think has the back foot boxing ability that Frampton has to win that fight.

surprising he's won a world title. unable to make weight v wayne McCullough? other problems as well I can't remember. two defeats to munroe, looking low on ideas. for a long time that KO of dunne was considered a fluke.

quigg's lateral movement was fine v munroe. in and out, setting up shows beautifully and hitting with variety to head and - of course - body. i'd well favour quigg. Martinez surprised romero and everyone, but quigg would be wary after Martinez's last result.

Yeah Munroe doesnt possess anywhere near the power that Martinez does. He's a limited boxer skill wise but he comes at you like a bull and doesnt give you time to breathe.

Frampton did not win easily over Kiko. It was a tough tough fight. Frampton fought well that night and finished it with a beauty.

It was a tough fight as Martinez wouldn't give up and just kept looking for the shot, but I think Frampton wins that fight over and over again.

In the end maybe, but Munroe looked like losing in the early stages of both the 2nd Martinez fight and the Terrazas fight.
I thought Martinez took 5 of the first 8 rounds vs Munroe in the 2nd fight, he couldn't miss Rendall at times with the lead right, but in the end Munroe's superior conditioning and pressure imposed on Martinez caused him to tire and Rendall nearly got him out of there in the last.
Terrazas seemed a different class to Munroe in the first 3 rounds of their fight, but once again superior conditioning and pressure did the trick for Rendall, and he managed to wear the Mexican down and get the stoppage. Of course how much the travelling Terrazas had to undergo to get to England effected him who knows.

The first Martinez fight wasn't close (although bizarely was on the scorecards, while the 2nd fight although quite close was strangely wide), though Martinez and his team claim he suffered from bad shoulder issues around the time of that fight and also the uninspiring win vs Lante Addy. Regardless of issues, Munroe got the job done in both Martinez fights and the Terrazas fight so credit to him for that.
