I think Vince needs to go, I thought this even before his loss but knew Nathan wouldn't change from his Dad whilst he was still winning. He is an aggressive fighter so perhaps Roach could utilise those skills?

Nathan told me that he was considering Adam Booth as a potential trainer a few months ago, so that's also an option.

Roach would be pointless. Cleverly is like Khan needs to learn to defend.

Vince is the most dislikeable chatecter in boxing. Had nothing to say but ramble incoherent bull**** in between rd3 and rd4

He is the definition of useless.

Actually I thought the whole corner was a shambles. 4 blokes talking at the same time really doesn't help a fighter. Especially when he's just getting clubbed around the ring.

Yep I agree about the corner work when he was in trouble, just totally didn't know what to do in the situation and it ended up as total chaos and he got sent out for the 4th round as disorganised as when he'd sat down. Chances are his head was gone anyway, but the corner certainly didn't do anything to help that situation.

In all honesty it was obvious during the Murat fight. They were clueless when Clev had a few difficult moments. Maybe i'm doing Vince a disservice, but he always came across to me as a bloke that was a boxing fan rather than a real trainer that showed his son a few things when he was a kid and they kind of just stuck with each other.

cleverly's come a considerable way, and we've been impressed by his showings as he's developed vs oakey, McIntosh, and we probably enjoyed the tear ups with murat and bellew. along the way fine tuning was needed and it didn't happen for this tremendous specimen.

cleverly reminds me of a character in an Ingmar bergman film. she's a world class violin talent, but she practices only with her father, and her technique has become in bred. cleverly makes some terrible mistakes in there, and has been doing so a long time, noticeably vs murat and bellew. the sort of European level. so many things had to be tightened up.

kovalev was just so on his game. unorthodox yet throwing heavy shots, persistent and breaking the other guy's rhythm, imaginative and fluid with combinations, varying head and body, throwing in quantity but retaining quality. a model of absolute focus and urgency who looked ready to take on anything.

it does take a long time to change these things. carl froch came through making loads of mistakes. he's only in the last 3 fights really fixed these mistakes despite signs of promise in such fights as pascal (2nd half) and abraham. good job there wasn't a kovalev waiting for him when he was coming through...

Nathan and Enzo Mac don't get on particularly well but that should not affect his choice of trainer, so why not. Lockett would be a good choice.

Tony Borg would be my choice for Cleverly, he is a very under rated trainer and has done a great job with Selby. The whole of the Bristol boxing set-up seems very good.

That explains a lot. Nathan and Enzo both come across as genuinely nice guys. I was wondering what the root of the tension was.

I think Oliver Harrison he done a great job of Martin Murrays defence, Jamie had a great defence when he used it like in Macklin fight, etc

Great coach give him the tools and he will produce good things!!

Not the first time I have heard it be said that Vince is a bit of a prick; Bellew said as much. Anyone here know what his problem is?

I was thinking the exact same... booth is doing well with groves when george needs to fight defensive and after nathan standing Straight in front hoping his chin would hold up he needs some serious defensive training. ... it could be booth or even virgil...

I can hear why you say that but Nathan is an aggressive fighter, like Khan. Some things you cannot change. Look at Khan, he has gone downhill IMO wince joining with Virgil. Utilise his aggressive strengths but box smarter which is what Freddie could do.

i dont personally believe that if you are an aggressive fighter you dont have to work on your defence you just have to box smarter... boxing smarter for me would be smothering, better head and body movements/feints, parrying, higher guard, rolling properly off the ropes and countering, tucking the chin in , ... look at Romero he tried to fight his way out of trouble he looked exactly like khan did after he was floored by garcia.. .. box smarter is be defensive when you need to be... :)

Who's the trainer in the hat doing the corner and the padwork in the open air video .... its not his dad. But he seems to concentrate on singleshots, surly they didn't think that would work ?

That is true but don't think they would of picker Sergey as an opponent people in boxing knew this was a very tougher fight than the average joe realised, I feel they felt he was overhyped, could only come forward and just basic footwork but it's easy to think that when watching, a lot of decent Eastern Europeans have great distance, balance and very very heavy handed

With his hand speed and work rate he could be moulded in to a "Linares type", maybe like Jorge he should link up with Teiken...
