i was just thinking he seems to disapeared from public view and he said before he went into a depresion after he stopped cricket could he feel a bit embarrassed even thou he got the win .

He's now advertising Jacob's crackers.

He knew Dawson laid off him when he was floored. I thought he did well considering his lack of
experience.

As far as I know it was a one fight project, he's done other things like cycle across France and stuff like that, he just seems to be having a dabble at loads of sports for some reason. I don't see him boxing again that's for sure.

He wasn't bad, easy to see it was his first fight, he had a decent jab though and was probably at the wrong weight.

I thought some of the stick he got even before the Dawson fight was bang out of order,people saying he was making a mockery of the sport and what not??? if you listened to any interviews in the build up, he was under no illusions about his limitations and he brought the sport some much needed publicity,he,s as much right to try boxing as anyone regardless of his previous occupation

Fair enough if he walked right into a title shot then that would have been ludicrous but he fought 4 2 minute rounds against a novice

Kudos to him i say,i cant think if anyone making their debut in front of so many fans and viewers ever,at least the Olympians have their amateur experience to call on,very brave thing to do

Yeh he was very brave but ultimately very rubbish. Some of those arm punches were very embarassing. I thought he'd be a lot better than he was, just for the fact he's been a sportsman all his life and Ricky Hatton used to say he was useful when he'd done little bits of padwork etc, must have just been mates talk.

I haven't heard any more about him training for anyone or looking for his next fight, which does actually leave me disappointed, I really did hope he would carry on with a career in boxing just because he has the personality to get people interested in the sport and he did do really well for his first fight ever especially when its televised and attended by as many people who went to see the fight card

McGuigan said he hoped he wouldn't carry on and as others have said it was a one off fight. To be honest he was lucky he actually got licensed to fight having no previous experience, the board must have known who he was going to fight before hand as Dawson must have been hand picked for the fight and given a little more money in his back pocket. I'm sure some boxers would have loved kicking Flintoff's ass experienced or not.

I was sure he was going to be a footballer after the boxing series but that hasnt happened.

At the end of the day you have to praise Freddie for his efforts good or bad because you have to have balls to get into the ring with anyone, a patsy or not, anything could happen you can throw a punch not expecting it to be hurtful but it could serious harm the other guy.

Freddie wasn't the worse ive seen man I remember a guy called Steve Black I saw in Newcastle the crowd were laughing at his attempts, he was throwing a punch and spinning around off balance. I think he's a coach for Newcastle Rugby team now.

Yeah I saw something along those lines. Im not sure if it was a case of it not being for him or whether his body just wasnt up to it at this late stage in his sporting career with the injuries he's had and stuff.

I think it was the getting punched hard in the mush thing that made his mind up Columbo. Tbf though he had a go and found out he wasn't up to it and did the smart thing.

I think he realised that he wasnt very good at it either and realised that at some stage if he carried on he was likely to end up poleaxed like his good mate Ricky!

Yeah, no doubt. He would have been easy prey.

Dawson is still around though, beat Ty Cobb in his last fight a month ago, and was 10lb lighter than when he fought Flintoff.

spot on - i thought he was not only showed he was taking it seriously but was completely disciplined and for a first fight since primary school he was pretty damn good i thought. I'd like to see him have another fight against another novice.

But to me he showed all the ingredients to have what it takes to be a fighter had he started earlier or eased his way in rather then dive in the deep end on a massive stage.

He retired on the night? I was hoping he would carry on as so many casual fans would pay to see him and I was interested throughout the entire thing.

Fair play to him for having a go, but some of his punches were dreadful, its one thing going out there and the occasion getting to you but his punches were more like slaps. I think it would have been better if he done the same training etc. But went in amateur and had a few contests rather than one "pro" fight, it does make a mockery that he could be called a "pro" boxer and is undefeated?!

The other fella could have blatantly finished him off but didn't, because that is not why he was there. He was there to lose.

Interestingly (or at least to me) Richard Dawson (the guy Flintoff beat) went on to score a seemingly respectable 6 round decision over a fighter with a record of 16-4. EDIT Sorry Ian, didn't see your post.

Just goes to show how shockingly bad the Oklahoma scene must be. Either that or there were indeed some, ahem, dark forces at play in the Freddie fight.

Look at the lack of punches Dawson threw. Pretty obvious what happened.
