WBA super world middle weight title

I remember when Geale fought Sturm he was unifying his IBF belt and Sturms WBA super title.
So I expected Barker to be fighting a double belt holder in Geale and therefore be in line for both titles.
I was surprised to learn Barker only got 1 title.
so when i look back Geale held the WBA super title for 1 fight only.
Why was he instantly stripped of this title?
He fought Mundine next, an all aussie fight, presumably for the same reason Barker will now hopefully look to fight Murray or Macklin, because domestic title fights pay well.
Was Geale supposed to fight a mandatory or rematch instead of fight Mundine?
It seems strange that he only held that title for 1 fight.
