Does anyone know how many amateur fights Dennis Andries had before he turned pro?... also if any information on what he is up to these days would be appreciated.

Dennis has been seen lately at The Monthly LEBA Meetings at The William Blake public house near Old St station London & still looks in great shape.

Thats good to know Peter, not heard much about Dennis since he retired. I've been getting some of his fights together , and he was a tough man.

His fights with Harding were immense, one of the most underestimated trilogies in boxing.

I remember Devon Bailey outscoring Andries in the London ABAs in the 1970s but Dennis broke his jaw and nearly killed him when they met in the pros for the British title.
Andries was trained by Harry Griver out of the Colvestone club, a strong, strong fighter but truly ghastly to watch.

Saw Dennis a month or so at the Islington ABC show along with Price Rodney, still aint aged any!!,

Prince Rodney looks a lot older (but that's a slick hat!). Andries looks virtually exactly like he did when he was fighting. He's always looked 45.

And that picture has prompted me to discover that yes, Prince Rodney has always been taller than Andries.

He will be fighting I a charity show in London for the.
Royal marsdem at the Wellington barracks along with many other ex pros like woodhall, Francis and Witherspoon!

Thanks for the pictures Eric, yes Dennis looks like he did years ago, good to see.
I was watching his fight against Bobby Czyz the other day, Czyz was coming off a loss of his world title, but would of been favoured to beat Dennis, but the Londoner upset the odds by winning a majority decision. It was Dennis's 3rd fight with Emmanuel Steward and it seems he got Dennis to settle down in the ring more, not so much upper body movement and get bigger right hands in.
Dennis must of been in some absolute wars in the Kronk gym, I can't see many of the guys there wanting to come out 2nd best to a guy from England.

I was reading a Boxing News in the upstairs lav the other day and the first Andries v Harding bout was reported; the writer said he had never seen anyone as courageous as Harding in a boxing ring. Hope he's getting back on track; (there're some hard men from OZ)

Massive fan - he always gave 110% in a fight, NEVER EVER gave up, when most would quit/give up/stay down that man had the heart of a lion.

You could never count out Dennis because he would give it everything right up to the end of a fight even if he wasn't winning.

He looks in great shape in these pictures, and it's unfortunate that you don't get to hear more about him.

There ought to be a Dennis Andries rating for a fighters balls; Andries would score a 10 naturally, what a tough proud man, with all the arena screaming for his blood! To think he had the knackers to go round to the Kronk and spar, improve and get another title is exceptional; it'd make a brilliant film.

Andries shows the beauty of what & where determination & will get you!!

To have the strength/fitness and conditioning he had must of taken some effort.

Bernard Hopkins still looks in great shape and fights great at over 40, Dennis fought over the age of 40 too for a fair while.

Shows was an immense puncher Hearns was, to carry the kind of power at 175, to put a hard hard man like Andries over on his arse - what was it, 7 knockdowns I seem to recall?

I don't think there's every been anyone quite like hearns, his power was freakish - I remember him saying once that if he bulked up, he could knock Mike Tyson out, and you know, it didn't seem that mental a thought at the time. I mean, one of Tyson's jabs would probably have knocked him out, but he did seems to carry absolute dynamite, even at 175. By the time he got to cruiser, he was really too long in the tooth to carry the same power.

I'm not saying of course he could have beaten Tyson, just that it's a testament to his power, that back in the day, it seemed possible his power would just carry on up the weights forever. How that man ever made 147, to this day has me mystified, as skinny as his legs were, his top half was like a heavyweights.
