IS GERMAN POINT SCORING THE WORST IN THE WORLD?

Arthur Abraham clearly lost yesterday. How can working only in the last 10 seconds of the round and win the round? And how was that a UD decision

Did Thomas Ademek really draw that fight yesterday?

The Judging in that country is disgraceful and something should be done.

People always mention Germany as being appalling but I think we're just as bad if not worse!

They were hired by the German promoters, and did what was necessary in Germany. Remember, this is the country that started both world wars. Can't trust them.

I haven't seen the fights, but a number of people believe the decision in the AA fight was fair, but that at least one of the cards was too wide. Excessively wide cards for a house fighter who arguably won are common everywhere (as is complaining about decisions in very close fights), and I'm not sure if they constitute a significantly greater proportion of decisions in Germany among bouts involving one house fighter than in other countries.

I thought the Namibian did enough but it wasn't quite a robbery for me. Too many close rounds. Accuracy vs volume.

The people who kicked them out of their homeland which ironically is the land they are currently being accused of stealing even though it belongs to them, politics eh? It's a mugs game.

Anyhow, anybody who thinks Abraham lost needs their head testing.

Home scoring is particularly bad in the sport and Germany has been up the in worst for big fights for decades unfortunately they arent alone the US is shocking and Britain just robs any traveling opponent in smaller fights as a matter of course. To the point where people say someone wont win on points when fighting in Germany despite how well they fight as a given.

Even the highlight reel in Germany is a farce. In the AA fight a clear KD wasnt counted for no valid reason; he was knocked off balance by a punch and touched the floor with his glove.

Why isnt there a proper outside officiating organisation reviewing fights to make sure they are being scored fairly?

AA didnt just lose he was clearly beaten.

AA didn't even believe that he won. If you look at his corner after the fight there heads were down

To me, the depressing thing isn't that it was the worst decision ever (it wasn't), its that you just KNOW what the outcome is going to be after the final bell rings. My dad watched it with me, when the final bell rang he said "Artur's lost that one" and I said there's no way on earth he won't get the decision.

I must say I agree. I also knew he would get the decision. Judges like micky vann knows he awalys will get picked to judge in Germany if he keeps scoring like that for the home fighters.

It's not such a ridiculous thing to say. It keeps the ball rolling, ticket sellers selling...

Ya, it's a good point.

If fairness, conceived as scoring which accurately reflects the appropriate allocation of points to each boxer based on the relevant scoring criteria, is the ultimate criterion one uses in evaluating what's a desirable decision, poor decisions probably aren't desirable in most circumstances. In terms of business, however, those decisions can lead to more positive outcomes (a relatively high increase in ticket sales if a better supported boxer wins, a ranking/belt for a more marketable fighter, etc) than you'd have otherwise. That, in turn, can lead to a relatively thriving boxing scene, whether the effect is only local or more broad.

And I guess that's also the reason why more people are watching UFC !!!! Things need to change

There may also be a backlash among some who turn from the sport due to perceived unjust decisions, but on balance those decisions may be positive in the ways I've described, especially if there are enough just decisions to provide some broader sense of fairness and thus reduce the number who will become disenchanted with boxing.

I don't know much about the UFC or its viewership, but who it attracts may have little to do with questionable decisions in boxing. I imagine that many people who watch the UFC don't watch and have rarely, if ever, previously watched boxing anyway, and not just because they were unhappy with certain decisions. You mention that Germany has disgraceful scoring, but how is the UFC doing there?

World impact particularly the USA which as we know is the home of boxing. It is proven that viewing numbers have decreased. Boxing is far from dead but I have watch so many fights more recently with dodgy decision and thought distraught how boxing is going with judging. people might say its always been like this but Its getting worse especially when a german bill comes up you think is it worth watching??

The UFC has undoubtedly become more popular in recent years, but that alone doesn't suggest poor judging in boxing has much to do with it.

I watch almost all major German cards, and fair scoring for visiting fighters isn't uncommon and sometimes I feel the judges have been too generous to visitors. Huck fairly could've been given the second Afolabi fight and the scoring in the third fight was too close; Sturm fairly could've been given decisions over Geale, Murray, and Soliman; it wouldn't have been a big stretch to give Culcay the decision over Pitto; it wouldn't have been a big stretch to give several German-based female boxers decisions that went to visitors over the past few years, and so on.

When you account for the fact that most German cards receiving significant attention outside the country involve a well promoted German-based fighter facing a foreigner who is not as strongly supported, I don't think the scoring is that bad relative to the scoring of comparable fights in other countries.

What people don't understand is the bigger picture. We love boxing, however there are many fans that are part-timers. I love boxing because my father got me into it and I was a boxer myself and its just like when you support a football team because a member in your family was passionate about a team. Well its just the same in fighting sports the only big problem for boxing is the we will lose generations to other fighting sports and the part-time fan cannot be bothered to watch boxing with so many dodgy decisions as they are already. Someone in boxing really needs to do something about judging in boxing.
