If you think so, how can he beat him?

He is not beating the great Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns in type, shape or form above the welterweight class. Above welterweight, those weight classes were TOO BIG FOR the great Roberto Duran. Hearns wins most of the time above 147.

No chance in a rematch

Probably not, but unlikely that Tommy could repeat the one sided beat down.

That was a fluke.

I doubt Tommy would always make as easy work of Roberto as he did, but I think he'd beat him everytime.

Agreed; Duran'd give him harder nights.

Duran supposedly trained very poorly for the Hearns' bout but Tommy's style and far superior physical advantages at 154 would always be too much for Manos de Piedras.
Duran might be able to go the distance in a rematch, but Hearns clearly wins again.

Heavens is just a very bad match up for Duran so no I don't think he could ever beat him.

Yes he could beat him. Absolutely, however I think the odds remain forever in Hearns favor.

Anyone who says it could never happen, is being very unrealistic.

Having the odds be in your favor is no guarantee of success lol.

What were the odds going in on Duran - Leonard 1?

Tommy every day of the week. Duran is one of the greatest but this style matchup is all wrong for him.

If my aging memory serves me, SRL was an 8-5 favorite in Montreal.
I took a bad hit that night at the books.

Thanks for that tidbit SenorPipino.

Hearns completely overpowered and overwhelmed Duran when they met. He was just far too big for him. This fiught is a mismatch, and it always would be.

Duran best shot - probably hius only shot - is to swarm around Tommy Hearns, crowd Tommy and try to expose chin the way that Hagler did.

But, all that being said, I think that somewhere down the line in the rematch Hearns would be able to use his reach and his power to pound Roberto into oblivion just as he did the first time.

My verdict: Tommy wins again, much the same way as he did last time.

This statement is a rare example of pure distilled gibberish, mixed with a healthy dose of blabber and gobbledegook.

Can you name a high profile loss in which Duran didn't train "very poorly" for? Possibly the Hagler fight, but there seems to be an overlap between Hagler and Duran fanatics. Virtually all the other losses - even against big name, elite fighters - were usually excused as him not being training right (as if that were somehow a legitimate excuse for a professional, world class athlete.)

While Hearns would be hard pressed to score another quick stoppage of Duran, I still think the best case scenario we'd ever see from Duran would be a one sided decision loss. Tommy Hearns just would not fight in Duran's range, and so that pretty much eliminates all scenarios where Duran might win. Without one punch knockout power at the Hitman's weight, even if Duran lands a Sunday punch, Hearns would weather storm and be back in control in less than 2 rds.
