Good friends fighting???

This may or may not have been a topic in the past so sorry if I'm covering old ground but I was thinking today about 2 of my pals tony Owen and Danny Connor that are facing eachother in the ring in October.

These 2 guys from what I gather have been friends for a long time and I was wondering if and who anyone knows of really good friends fighting in the ring???

I'm not talking about hugs that have had a little spar here and there and become associates but guys that have been in camp together for a long time or even risen up thro the amateur ranks together then met as pros.

I do vaguely remember reading about a father fighting his son in a professional boxing match although don't quote me on that.

Were Moore and Macklin not friends? It really showed as you could tell either man didn't want to hurt the other........

Froch and Kessler aren't mates, Froch even said he'd kill him to win the fight if he had to.

it's a shame they both didn't get paid a lot more than they did for that fight, they both gave way more than they could have been asked.

They are mates though as in if Kessler was in the UK or Carl in Denmark they would go to each others houses for dinner for sure and no doubt, Froch has said they are mates on a few occasions and Mikkel the same

their partners are meant to get on well to.... expe though carl said that... they are mates maybe carl said that in the heat of the moment to try and distance his relationship and focus on the fight?

This.

He had fight mode on and said something very silly he then apologised for next day.

They call each other regularly, and it goes further than just respect.....its what I'd recognise as friendship

Simon Brown was very good friends with Maurice Blocker when they fought, Brown won by 10th round Tko, he went to help Blocker once the ref stopped it , Brown was is tears after the fight.

That was the fight that immediately sprang to my mind too Ian. Quality fight between 2 world champs. Brown was genuinely upset at the end.

Rhodes v Silky Jones back in Dec 1996 was a tricky affair for Wincobank, and for Sheffield in general.

Happens all the time in the amateurs when two lads train together then are paired in the area championships.
