Hmm. Seems a strange one. He could of got a moderately decent payday fighting Frankie Gavin and the chance to take a scalp of an unbeaten prospect. It's a shame for fans aswell because he would of been a good gauge/ step up for Frankie.

He can be very proud of a great career,European champ,World title challenger,obviously he never reached the heights of Ricky but who has from Britain really?(in the grand scheme of things)

His performance against Branco was quality, UD'd Nuzhnenko the puncher, flattened Belge and turned in a brave, never say die performance against far stronger Alvarez. Brook mauled him.

Great career. His achievements well surpassed his talent imo. He can be very proud of his career, He can look back on his career and have no regrets.

Fair play to him, made a very good fist of it and can be proud of of his achievements with the tools he had at his disposal.

I didn't like his style of boxing but he was always conditioned, boxed some good men and got some good results; he came across really well also - he seemed to be level headed and not too big for his boots. I imagine him doing something else well and being happy.

Massive overachiever and more often that not had to grit his teeth and see out the 12 due to a lack of real power. Tough guy.

he seemed to take it in his stride very well, he didn't come across as bitter or jealous and seemed happy that he had benefited from Rickys' success.

Fair play to Matty, a great pro. I would say that the famous brother thing is a double edged sword, it brought opportunities that would have otherwise escaped him. Hope he enjoys retirement! From the starting product to where ended up, I think he is one of the most improved domestic fighters of recent years, perhaps only second to Burns in terms of the level of improvement over the years.

I would have liked to see him fight Gavin and Witter before he retired though.

The Witter fight went to purse bids and no one bothered, so I guess you're in the minority there and with him being out until the new year the Gavin fight was never realistically going to happen.

Give the guy a bit more credit than that. He was a very hard nut as he showed against Alvarez, who is a much bigger man.

Hatton was a good operator, European level, nowhere near good enough on the world scene though.

He benefit hugely from sharing the name of his brother, which gave him opportunities he otherwise may not have gotten.

Seems a decent guy too.

Tend to agree. I think he had a world class chin, no doubt about that & decent skills but nothing to worry the top echelon.

He seemed a fit and strong lad who learned to box well without having a lot of amateur experience; he had some good wins and never once showed himself up; he had a lot of guts and was very tough; Matthew made a good career out of nothing - well done to him.
