Not many people actually know much about boxing. People in work etc. only watch the big fights and don't know who being from Wales the likes of Lee Selby and Gavin Rees are.

Ordinary people know of our current crop:

David Haye
Amir Khan
And some know Carl Froch

Some also know 'that big guy from the Olympics'. It's rare for normal people to know anyone else

I couldn't name a single current Manchester United footballer.

All i know is Alex Ferguson has retired and Moyes from Everton has gone over.

It's disappointing it doesn't get talked about like football. Yeah the obvious Froch, Khan, Haye. Even Darren Barker and Ricky Burns they have no idea.

It depends on what they usually follow though, my two most watched sports are boxing and motorcycle racing, I vaguely follow football but other sports I'm ignorant, take golf for example, I thought Tiger Woods was the best on the planet until recently when I found out he hasn't won a major in 5 years.

What have you got against Burns? Seems like a nice enough bloke, he's had some good wins these last few years too.

He does seem a nice chap doing OK for himself and I would like to see him win a decent belt, does well with what he has just not my cup of tea and don't enjoy watching him if I am honest

less than 36 minutes against Kevin Mitchell..........and there's been plenty who couldn't do much with KM.

my mate watched a fight 2 or 3 years ago......he ain't a boxing fan. He could name Mike Tyson and Frank Bruno...Lennox.....Khan...and Froch cos he's a Forest fan......oh and Hatton obviously........after that you've got no chance with him....

anyway, one night he throws me a curved-ball and says he watched a cracking fight the other night on the TV........he's got more channels than me. Anyway, luckily I'd seen the TV schedule or read the BN that week and it turns out he's talking about none other than.......boxing binman Rendall Munroe!!.......I think it may have been Maludrotto but in any case it was a bit of a war and my mate was loving telling me about it......

From that day forth all of our boxing crack has revolved around Munroe.....I let him know about every Munroe fight and his ears prick up lol it's funny. Rendall got my mate into boxing :salut: :box:

Exactly it isn't Burns fault that he beats the top contenders and chanpions in his division (Broner will never come back down)

boxing fans can be a bit elitist and snobby with regards the general public. As a boxing fan, I have loads of casual viewers asking my opinion of upcoming fights. Cant help but think we sometimes treat them like idiots just cos they don know Richard Williams once did meals on wheels.

if boxing was so unpopular then the highest paid athletes wouldn't consistently be boxers.

I would like to talk about it, but that only happens after the mega fights.

Wayne Rooney?? The guys ugly mug never seems to be off the TV or the front/back pages (depending on whether he is shagging/scoring goals)
