Penalosa/Montiel at either 115 or 118.

I believe Gerry has retired so this is a proper topic for BOTP. These two were at a high level during the same time frame and in the same weight range but never fought. For a time, Penalosa held the WBO bantam belt while Montiel was the WBO super fly champ. How would this have gone?

For me Fernando Montiel beats the crap out of Gerry Penalosa. Montiel would be be too fast and powerful for Penalosa would for me just take an awful shallacking because of his jaw.

I never saw anyone beat the crap out of Penalosa at 115 or 118; I don't think Montiel would.

I think Montiel's superior boxing skills would win the decision for him. Penalosa is a tough SOB though and would be coming at him and giving him a fight every step of the way.

I'd take Montiel by close decision. Penalosa also had solid skills.

He's certainly no pushover. Many people thought he even deserved a decision over De Leon late in his career...so yeah clearly the guy can box.

For the record I never saw the Penalosa-De Leon fight so I'm not sure about the controversial nature of it, but I've heard it was questionable.

I had it a draw. The scores were way off.
