Burns-Beltran

Not really a lot on here about this fight.

How good is Beltran? I don't see anything on his CV to suggest he's a top operator, but the bookies have him as low as 3/1 to cause an upset (with 4/1 being the largest on offer).

Burns looked awful last time against Gonzalez, but is Beltran any better than any of Burns's other opponents?

I can't see anything other than a comfortable win for Burns, probably a wide points decision.

Anybody else think any differently?

Beltran got stopped by Diaz (Gethin conqueror) and has had very modest opposition. I expect Rickster to have him out of there with possibly a corner retirement.

50/50 fight in my opinion.

Ricky has two plans here - either get him out of there in the first two rounds (as Beltran is stiff/cagey until he's in the swing of things) and if he can't do that, then he needs to get sat in the centre of the ring and do not under any circumstances allow himself to be pushed back onto the ropes.

Beltran gains more and more momentum with each round and he loves to push opponents back to the ropes and punish them there. He's in his element on the perimeter of the ring.

I just hope that the "lunging" jab and right hand, that Burns has been guilty of especially in his last fight, has been addressed as you can see it a mile off at this level.

Beltran will target the body more than the chin, as Ricky has been hurt downstairs more than being hit upstairs, probably on account of him being tall and slim.

Ricky is better in all departments, and is very strong plus he has the home support - but he's going to have to earn the win.

Let's not forget, Beltran recently beat Hank Lundy - who then went on to dominate Ajose Olusegun.

His opposition looks pretty decent to me.

It's certainly not terrible but I think modest sums it up for me. His last 2 were against the number 247 and 75 ranked boxers (aware Burns last opponent was seventy something). He has been beat soundly by a couple boxers ranked outside the top 30 I think and his best win was when he scraped past Lundy. Admittedly I've only seen him box a couple of times (Bogere and Lundy) but wasn't impressed.

That was more to do with the fact he was fighting a very defensively minded counter-puncher and he had to go looking for Gonzalez. Beltran is a completely different kettle of fish style wise.

Burns to stop him late, Beltran carries the right hand very high and the left hand low. Feint the jab, straight right, left to the body, move away, because Beltran will throw straight back after he's hit with a combination to try and drag Burns into a tear up. Beltran talks about fighting away from home, but only 2 of his defeats were in the opponents backyard and Diaz stopped him, which had nothing to do with where the fight was.

Burns has massive balls.

He's fought the wrong fight tonight though. But he's fought on despite a damaged jaw.

He's down 3 pts on my card going into 12th.

I thought you had it wrong, but fair play to you Gomez, you had it spot on. One thing no one can question with Burns is his heart, he's fought 11 rounds with a broken jaw and really dug in tonight.

He did but he's been exposed in back to back fights now. His heart is never in question but cmon.

Richie Davis... Mickey Van... Someone needs to put these to pasture.

It was a close but absolutely obvious fight to call.

He could have quit like Gonzalez did. He showed a massive heart, incompetent judging isn't his fault.

Proper tough nut Burns, dislocated jaw, got straight back up after a knockdown and looked strong. Would love to see a rematch though, Beltran right to feel hard done by.

I didnt say about incompetent judging. I said he was exposed in terms of ability. Ive never said anything about his heart. He's got a lot of heart, no doubt.

He complained about the pain in his jaw throughout, held constantly to avoid getting hit on the jaw and got rewarded with a draw when he clearly lost. I can't agree that that's a man with a big heart. Heart overrides pain. darren barker round 6 that's heart.

So he should of let Beltran hit him on the jaw to prove he has heart?

No he should have continued as normal, he wouldn't normally allow an opponent to hit him on the jaw

Fighting with a dislocated jaw isn't heart? He should have hung his jaw there to hit right? That would have proved his heart. Stupid.

No he should have continued as normal, hanging his jaw out for his opponent isn't normal.

don't be silly andy; you make some really good points but here you're wrong; Darren got hit very hard in the body and managed to see the round out and box through to win; Burns suffered damage to his jaw very early on and boxed on the defensive for 9 rounds against a talented left hooker. Burns showed real heart to go the distance but did not win the bout; Beltran deserved the decision but there is no doubting Burns stomach.

He didn't see the round out he battled it out toe to toe, just like the gattis, the benns do when their hurt. You must have been watching a different fight because be didn't box through to win either, he has spoke plenty of times about how he should of done that but his desire to win took over and he went to war.

Did Burn's power desert him last night ?

As soon as his feet stood together the leverage completely vanished.
