For those of you who haven't seen this check it out...wow...surely one of the hardest punches that anyone has ever taken...that left hook in round one ..crikey o'reilly!!! What a guy Jerry was, what a heart, what a chin....fighting spirit personified....great 1970's brawl....

Joe Alexander was a real good banger, who was a regular at the New York Boxing Gyms.

He started out as a 190 lb. 'small Heavyweight', but worked out with weights and became
a muscle-bound 205 lb. 'Train-Track Spike Pounder'.

A dangerous muscle-bound puncher, but he usually 'gassed out' quick and couldn't take
a real good punch to the chin.

How Jerry Quarry got up from that left-hook....... :oo ....... was an amazing feat.
How many amazing nights did Quarry have ...honestly...what a tough competitor..if he was around '55-'62 he could have been a champ!!!!

Today he could have been a cruiserweight champion....Jerry didn't seem to carry the extra weight too well...when he went over 200lbs he didn't have the same sharpness...

Always recall trainer Gil Clancy's sage advice to Quarry between the first and second rounds:
"Keep your hands up and your ass off the canvas!"
Jerry did as told and then won quickly as expected.

Some thought Quarry went into the fight somewhat unfocused as a rematch with Frazier was in the offing if he won impressively over Alexander.

Patterson did it with one punch. He threw a three punch combination, the left and right to the body that preceded the knockdown were blocked though and the follow up left hook did the trick.

Did something that Floyd Pattterson, Thad Spencer, Jimmy Ellis, Mac Foster, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Ron Lyle,
Earnie Shavers and Kenny Norton could not do.

He put Jerry on the canvas with 'one-punch'.
Frazier made Quarry sink to the canvas with a single body shot in their second fight.
