If CANELO comes in at 154lbs...

What is the penalty? I cannot see Floyd letting him off without a hefty fine, maybe $10M every 1/2 pound over - I am serious- going to be an interesting weigh-in.

Hopefully Canelo does come in at the championship weight!! Mw has boxed up at 11st before & knows this kid is a big 11stoner & boils down so making him cut more is ridiculous & shows what a bitch me really is I hope Canelo does what he done to Marquez. But as Tom as said I bet he's put a mad penalty on it no doubt

I have a feeling Mayweather wins regardless of weight. Canelo has to get close to combination punch and he won't be trapping Floyd anytime soon.

Mayweather comes in at any weight he likes. I'd love Alvarez to come in at 154.

I actually think it would spook Floyd.

I can't see Alvarez defeating floyd neither!
Especially if he comes in under the limit.
Alvarez is to predictable & couldn't break Matthew hatton when he boiled down & had to climb over a old Ryan Rhodes all night so can't see him smothering mw.

Would love mw to lose!!! I think this fight could take alot out of him tho & if he fights soon after it could tell on him as hbo have him contracted to fight often

i agree but as with boxing its not as straight forward as we predict... just to open a little angle Alvarez's power could present MW with a slight worry as he wont come in as weight drained like he did with Hatton as that was fought at a lower weight and not catch weight of 152...

Tom I wouldn't blame MW if he fined Alvarez for being 2lbs over say.... imagine pre fight weight of Alvarez could be anything to up 166ish

Mayweather has faced much bigger hitters! Dlh Judah mosely & many more. I'd say Alvarez coming in 12-3 on the night & his strength!
Be intresting too see who is reffing?? Mayweather will prob pay protection money out his sport bag like he did v hatton!
I feel this will be a very scrappy contest & it goes to points if mayweather spends to much time tying up Alvarez he could come unstuck & get turnt over on the cards.
I ain't big on Alvarez & feel he's been abit manufactured similar to Chavez jnr & I feel me really feels there is no way he loses to this guy

It will possibly be Carlos Baldomir part 2.

I can see Floyd darting in with the lead right hand, he's going to spear Canelo as often as he can with it. He will look to fight him outside and on the inside. He will use the entire ring to his advantage. Floyd isn't a massive hitter - but he certainly has enough pop to keep opponents off him.

Canelo has faster hands that he looks. His lucky punch in this fight will be the left-hook to the body. He's got to keep swinging that whenever every Floyd is in range for it. The problem is that Floyd isn't open to it. Floyd's arms / elbows hang low over that target area, and so Canelo is going to have to gamble a bit when Floyd comes in and tries to land the right hand he is just going to have to throw it hard and see where it falls.

Floyds long rangy arms are great for picking open opponents, and also for inside fighting where he likes to involve the elbows and forearms a fair bit.

Canelo has to set his feet to get those thudding shots off - whereas Floyd can throw impressive punches on the fly without even thinking about it beforehand.

But what it ulitmately boils down to, is that Floyd is too smart for him.

116-112 116-112 116-112

Mayweathers rangy arms?? Didnt know he was renowned for his rangyness.

I think he's timing & accuracy stuns fighters & he does carry some pop but not a ko artist but that is rare at his level.

Mw is old his legs have slowed up & mw can get lazy letting fighters come onto him & then diffuse there stengths like he did with hatton I'd expect like you said sharp counters stabbing jabs then once he slows Canelo up let him come on to the shoulder rolling & fiddling he's way through the bought thrust eating Alvarez & nicking breathers here & there.
If Canelo can get mw to the ropes early he has more of a chance of me tiring not that I've ever seen him tire before!!
I think dlh once said that with floyd he lets you attack & picks his spots & the key is too punch with him very hard feat, against a master timer

His arms are freakishly long for his height.

He's got 5cm arm length over Alvarez, that's like a fist on the end of his fist.

He had 5cm over Guerrero,
5cm over Victor Ortiz
12cm over Marquez
and a whopping 17cm over Ricky Hatton.

Only De La Hoya had arms as long as Floyd's and he is nearly 6ft tall.

what MW does really well IMO is that he so bloody hard to hit as he slips and rolls punches so well .. this has in the past has frustrated boxers who then forget how to move and stand near enough upright to try and tag MW which allows MW to pick his punches with the lack of opponent movement...
beating MW maybe is not to be a massive hitter but what maybe more helpful would be fast hands with a little bit of power, good ring craft to run MW down and cut off the ring..... oscar did this very well but was unfortunate that he didnt manage it the whole fight and lost it in the championship rounds. canelo doesnt really posses fast enough hands to worry MW and does he have enough ring craft?... as Hurlock has already stated that Alvarez is predictable when coming forward... this will make an easy target for MW and he wil win with a points wide could even be dominant for MW

Canelo is impressive when he starts lettin his hands go but as others have said, he will struggle to find the positions to let of combinations. I noticed in his last couple of fights he has began to show more head movement but Mayweather will do what I think he usually does.

Box patiently for the first 2 or 3 rounds, maybe even lose one or 2 of the rounds but use them to gauge what Canelo has to offer. During they rounds he will also figure out what shots he can pick him apart with then gradually break him down to the point that late in the fight he is hitting him repeatedly with the same single shot. Either a right uppercut on the inside if canelo keeps the pressure on or his favourite straight right if he can keep canelo on the outside.

Either way i see mayweather winning by about 5 or 6 rounds margin.

I have a feeling this could go a similar way to the Cotto fight, Canelo will have the heart of a lion and keep walking Mayweather down but Floyd will have superior movement and speed and will out box him from start to finish. Mayweather will only lose this via stoppage.

It'd certainly spice things up, but to be honest, I don't think Canelo's the most dynamic 154lb-er anyway, he fights in spurts. Mayweather all day and all night for me in this one, unless Floyd suddenly slips dramatically in form.

I really do hate Floyd Mayweather for these little things he does to get advantages in the fights. He was happy to fight Cotto at 154 right, so why he making Canelo boil down to 152, when Canelo is the fricking beltholder!! Annoying and for me it slightly tarnishes Mayweather's legacy, the way he has had so many fights the way HE wanted them, getting people at the right time, he never fought anyone on THEIR terms or when they might beat him (i.e. Pacman in his prime).

Cotto won't come in the ring at 170, unlike Alvarez and we all know Mayweather is the true champion and he holds the WBA belt, Canelo has the WBC belt and Mayweather is the main attraction. If Alvarez doesn't like it, he shouldn't accept it.

It's just a little unecessary to me, if Floyd thinks he's the ATG as he clearly does, then he'd take on this man at 154, like he did other men. We all know 2 extra pounds off that huge Canelo frame could and should make a big difference to the fight.

I disagree. Floyd is THE MAN. If you don't like the terms then don't fight.

I don't recall anyone calling foul when Pac was fighting Cotto at 145lbs and DHL at 147lbs.
