Ricky Burn's punching power

Ignoring whether you think last night was a robbery or not, do you think Burn's hits hard enough at the top level? Beltran never looked phased by what Ricky was hitting him with last night and was just walking through his punches! It makes me wonder.

His punch power is ok In my book, it's just that he was never planting his feet for hurtful punches against Beltran. All his back hand shots were mostly getting thrown on the Backfoot therefore generally very little power was in them.

He's very heavy handed believe me. Certainly hard enough to stop people in their tracks.

Im not saying he's feather fisted but his punches dont sound like they have much pop in them to me. Beltrans on the other hand sounded very hard when they were landing or even hitting gloves! To be fair Gonzelez fought a lot of the fight against Ricky on the backfoot and yet his punches sounded powerful aswell and he hurt Ricky whilst counter punching on the backfoot.

Whilst you've been in the ring with Ricky and what have you have you sparred many genuine world class punchers outside of Ricky though?

I think he hits a lot harder in last few years but did look slim skinny at the weight?
Maybe that has something to do with it

Yeah I see what your saying about Gonzales but for me the power in his shots when he was on the Backfoot was there because he was comfortable in going back whereas Burns looked uncomfortable going backwards and a bit off balance throwing his shots

i think rickys power is ok at british/european level but he doesn't have power to really hurt or keep at bay the top fighters @light weight . i'm just glad the broner fight didn't happen i think it would of been painfull for burns.
he's got a bit more power than say jim mcdonnell or terry marsh but i'd put burns in their group rather than say mcguigan or even billy schwer for power

Do a couple of rounds sparring with him and see what you think?

Your thread is retarded, it depends who he hits FFS. Some fighters can take a hell of a bang whilst others can't. Simple really.

Beltran was knocked out by Ameth Diaz who isnt that big of a puncher in 4 rounds and he was down against Kim aswell. He hasnt got a completely iron chin like Froch for instance.

Kenny Anderson, Steve Murray, Marco Antonio Barrera, Mathew Hall, mike Gomez. Not a bad list.

Stop teasing... how does Burns' power compare with those guys?

Ameth Diaz not a big puncher? Are we thinking of the same guy because the Diaz Ive watched is nothing but a big puncher. As someone said its very hard for someone to generate any punch power fighting off the back foot like Burns last night. Not many boxers have chins like Frochs.

He hits very solidly. He's not light out but he gets a lot of leverage in his punches. You can see it.

I think if his approach was different he'd probably have a higher stoppage record but would have lost more. There's being a few fights which have changed his way because he can bang a bit, he's got a good stoppage back in the day of silence saheed who was very durable. He's KO'd Mitchell which Carl Johanson couldn't do.

Ok he's not the Scottish Felix Trinidad but he's got a fair clout.

Haha that in no way answers my question...

Diaz's KO ratio isnt that high. Also regarding generating power off the back foot, Gonzalez was able to do it against Burns.

23 KOs in 32 wins is very respectable.

Also punching power doesn't automatically = a high KO percentage, you have to see them fight to judge it properly.

Dude,

I've told you this before ,you have to watch the fights and not go off Boxrec stats !

For a start Boxrec result is actually wrong - Ray was pulled out in the 5th round and not the 4th as listed here.

Beltran's leg went from under him as a huge hook landed - and then his corner man just threw in the tile - and Ray was disgusted with his own team, as it cost him a showdown with Joan Guzman.

It was a weird ending to a fight where Diaz started fast and Beltran was finding his way into it when it ended.

Later Ji-Hoon Kim knocked Diaz out in the opening round, clocked him with a one-two behind his ear and he fell forward and flat on his face, then went on to lose handily to Beltran.

I understand the point you're making but im just saying that Beltran hasnt got a completely solid chin. It's not like he never goes down. The people that have put him down clearly have more of a dig than Burns does though.

Burns can't punch at world level. I still don't know how he pole-axed Mitchell. Last night all he could do was grab, grab, grab, when the guy kept marching in. His punches didn't deter the opponent at all.

I'm not slagging off Burns, its not rocket science to point out he hasn't got a hard punch at world title level.

And just because boxrec posters aren't pro boxers doesn't mean they can't have an opinion. I know a good goal from a flukey goal but I've never played for England

Tried to get that changed after watching the tape, but it remains the way it is, even with a link to the video of the fight posted.

The way things are going you might get a go if you take your boots to the next match
