Little Known Boxing Rules ?

Maybe not well known, but according to the WBO rules the following applies
9. A boxer shall receive a twenty (20) second count if the boxer is knocked out of the ring and onto the floor. The boxer is to be unassisted by spectators or his/her seconds. If assisted by anyone, the boxer may lose points or be disqualified with such a decision being within the sole discretion of the referee
Anyone got any more?

Only seen this on wwf! Surely it would be easier to help someone back up & then administer an 8 count?

That's been a rule for quite a while mate. It's in the BBBofC rules.

I was always under the impression that punching in the throat was against the rules, but there's nowt to stop it apparently.

I caught a geezer in the throat sparring once, you'd have thought I stabbed him the way everyone carried on. Its not as if I meant to do it.

That was the refs defence in Benn/Mcclellan was it not, when he was being accused of giving Benn a long count.

One rule i'd like cleared up is that i've seen 9-9 rounds given, think there was one in khan/peterson, but I always thought one had to be 10 (10-point must).

There have been 9-8 rounds in the past as well.

you win the round and get a point taken off its 9-9. score a KD and lose a point it'll most likely be 9-8.

Not the time keeper but Paul Sita counted to 20 in the infamous Gainer/Norwood fight....saying that he did also create a new rule whereby you have 20 seconds to get up from a low blow-

Happened when Katsidis knocked Cassamayor out the ring, he got a long count, got back in the ring and then went on to beat Katsidis

The rounds are scored 10(-1)-9, the deduction comes off when the scores are added up.

If the ref is taken ill or doesn't turn up due to over indulgence of pie and or sausage the Board Inspector can act as referee.

Boxers must have with them 2 pairs of different coloured shorts.

A boxer must also have 2 gum shields. If one is lost during the fight (comes out into the crowd or kicked somewhere) and the boxer doesn't have a replacement the ref will have to disqualify him (which may see him lose his purse).

A boxer can box again 6 days after winning his last contest (think it has to be within 3 rounds thoughbut not sure).

It is not (or wasnt mandatory) for boxers to wear hand wraps under their gloves.

Beards are allowed in the pros so long as neither camp (!) objects.
