anti climax , Mayweather v Alvarez

I thought the fight was like the World Cup final , a boring event due to how technical the match up was. This can happen when both boxers are at the top of their game and are not prepared to take chances.
I think as the bigger man Alvarez should have forced the fight from the 1st bell and I realise that would have played into Mayweathers counter punching style. But he was being paid a lot of money ,and his gameplan just didn't work anyway. How could he hope to outspeed the fastest boxer on the planet. He should just have got 'stuck right in " and chased Mayweather all over the ring- if he gets beat, he gets beat.
As it is , his performance has tarnished his reputation for the remainder of his career.

A performance against arguably one of the most gifted fighters the sport has seen will not tarnish his reputation and your comment about getting stuck in , if you have boxed you will know that its ok from outside of the ropes to make comments like that however often a very different ball game when the guy is in front of you.

Why should Mayweather risk brain damage for out entertainment? It's about hitting and not getting hit. The guy's a boxing genius and makes good fighters look ordinary. Up to the rest to up their game and give him a fight. But right now he's just in a different league.

Canelo didn't mind getting stuck in v Lopez and Gomez and a host of other overmatched and out sized boxers though, did he?

Some people are very well off and have money set aside for entertainment; they can say they were there to heir kids and grandkids and many will probably blow far more in the casino without thinking twice.

Tbh I didn't see it as a anti climax at all... for me the treat was seeing what is arguably one of the best p4p of the last few decades taking apart a very good fighter. .. it was a master class and an absolute pleasure to watch.. though I will be honest I really started to feel sorry for alvarez not being patronising but I think it the 5th round his face just looked like he realised the task was beyond him. . For me that was a bit of a sad moment when you see a fighter have that sort look... Anyway alvarez will have a glowing career and you can forget sometimes that hes only 23... also puts what Ricky did in perspective to...

"Mayweather is dull to watch" is a view shared by a heap of people.
Purists can stroke their beards all day, but I much prefer thrills over skills - hence I enjoy watching Cotto, Marquez way more than the people like Mayweather that outpointed them.
I've been looking at some America 'general' sports forums and the fight cropped up on a few, and several complained it was tedious to watch and glad they split the PPV with friends etc. Many said they would choose UFC over Mayweather every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
That to me is a bad sign indeed.

It would have been anti-climactic if there was a genuine expectation that the fight was going to be an all out war or a tense, competitive struggle but the most likely outcome going into the fight was that Floyd would fight the way Floyd always does and secure a clear points win.
You could argue that the Garcia - Matthysse fight was actually more of a let down as everyone was expecting a FOTY contender but it turned out a little less thrilling (but entertaining nevertheless).

Mayweather's fights are all anti-climaxes, he is dull and lacks power and carefully selects the opponents who are going to swing and miss all night.
Amazed anyone is still drawn in to the 'Money' circus after all this time.

I agree the Garcia-Matthysse fight was far more anti climatic than the main event.
Floyd is and always will be a safety first fighter. He'll trade now and again but he's too skilful for that. It was never going to be a war and Canelo will learn from this fight. Where he goes next is just as intriguing as where Floyd goes.

What people were expecting was Lucas to drape Garcia over the bottom rope, they were disappointed that didn't happen.

Not an anti climax for me, I enjoy watching Floyd's masterclasses. I'm a little disappointed in Canelo though, talked a better game than he could deilver.

I just cant get my head round that people think hes dull... i enjoy watching mayweather fight because of his skills.... is the dullness cos hes hard to hit and makes good fighters look bad or that the win is near enough a fore gone conclusion... however i do understand though over substance as i do prefer a good tear up like Mitchell v Murray

the only way canelo could win is by being the agrresive fighter taking chances and making floyd uncomfitable from the start so "getting stuck in "isn't stupid advice it's the only way canelo could win ,so try not to be so condersending to other when in fact the advice is sound .

I kind of get what a lot of people are saying, I much prefer watching cotto over mayweather but its not mayweathers fault hes miles better than anyone else, high risk styles get beat all the time, if you have floyds skill and eye why not use them, we might be seeing one of the best that ever did it, enjoy it while it lasts

At best you were only ever going to get the possibility of a knockdown against Mayweather, that he would no doubt recover from and go on to win the fight in usual style. To me it was no more of an anti climax that Roy Jones Jr v Julio Gonzalez for example. The main problem is that Alvarez represented the only serious challenge our there for Mayweather unless Broner ditches his sentimentality. Now that Mayweather has taken care of the danger man he'll easily get away with facing Khan next, who will probably only beat Alexander by a whisker as it is.
I wasn't anticipating Garcia and Matthysse to be a FOTY candidate but the first 5 rounds carried as much tension for me as any fight in recent memory.

I don't mind a technical chess match kind of fight as long as its competetive, I enjoyed may v Oscar but Canelo just didn't get into the fight it was totally one sided.

Agree totally. Mayweather is the best defensive fighter, but for me boxing is about more than this, it's not what got me into boxing in the first place and it's still not what I'm into all these years later. Most people want to see a fight, ups and downs, warriors, heart, bravery, punches landing - they don't want to see perfection or technical mastery at the expense of all those other things, otherwise we may as well all go and watch snooker.
