I didn't watch the fight last night, but from all reports Floyd cruised it. Although it was scored an MD, it sounded like a shut out was a fairer reflection of events.

So the question is, where does Floyd go from here? He has 4 fights left on his current contract. He has just completely dominated the guy who was seen as the best hope to defeat him. It leaves a conundrum for the television execs if they want to generate interest and revenue.

You look at the contenders at 140/147/154 and it is pretty barren. Pacquiao would still be big but it's not going to happen with the HBO-Top Rank/Showtime-Golden Boy divide. He's already defeated Marquez comfortably. All other potential challengers (Lara, Bradley, Alexander, Maidana, Broner, Thurman, Garcia, Khan, Alvarado, Rios) would be out of their depth.

I think if Floyd wants to pursue a true challenge and secure all-time greatness he should go up to 160 and fight Sergio Martinez. I don't know Sergio's situation with HBO but DiBella promotes him so that's one stumbling block out the way. He's looked old in his last few fights and by May 2014 will be coming off another big injury and a year's inactivity. It's a very winnable fight for Mayweather and will be great for his legacy.

Thoughts people?

Only one I'd give a chance to is GGG, but unfair to expect Mayweather to move up in weight so much just to have a competitive fight.

If Bradley beats Marquez he's the favourite IMO. The winner of Alexander/Khan is also a strong possibility. There's the Rios/Pacquiao winner to be considered but if the victor stays with Top Rank the chances are remote.

Martinez would be my choice. Its unfair to ask Mayweather to go to 160 IMO, but with Martinez showing obvious signs of wear i think Mayweather would win comfortably. It would be a great win for him and further cement his legacy as one of the very best ever.

He could also choose to unify the division by fighting Molina, but its not a very appealing match up.

There's no more cementing needed; Floyd is the very best of this era and that's it. He'd fit in with any time in boxing and I can imagine he'd have stopped more men if he boxed in the 15 round era; he wasn't out of breath after 12 rounds last nights.

Totally agree, his the only man who would start favorite against him, would love to see it but it just won't happen ! Khan Bradley or Garcia next !

I disagree, Mayweather took the foot off as he had 8 rounds in the bag, whenever he opened up Canelo looked sorry for himself; if the authorities had decided that this were to be 15 round bout (imaginative I know) then Alvarez would have been far unhappier. Floyd was better in every way including stamina and gameness - when the bout was going Floyds' way Alvarez could have gone for it in a big way, Mayweather took the fight out of him.

I wouldn't say he was out of breath but you bloody well should be tired after 12 rounds !
As far as greatness goes his one of the best ever, there's just no doubt about it, rjj was technically the best in my era but I think Mayweather has just past him

No one between lightweight and light middle even troubles Floyd. He should face Wlad or haye

He'll possibly go for Bradley, should he beat Marquez.

I suspect he's looking to retire undefeated at that magical 50-0 mark.

I'm a little older (43) and think that Leonard was on a par with Floyd, a young Roy Jones was some fighter too though the drugs thing does take it away. Floyd would get into any era and there's no one round his weight would show him up, even with 100's of bouts experience.

I'm fairly convinced Leonard would beat him.

Hearns I can make a case for him KOing him but also one where Mayweather wins on points.

Benitez v Floyd would have been very good and it depends which Leonard turns up; Hearns, I don't think at welter would have connected enough - not every Hearns fight was a Duran KO.

Leonard was big at 147, he had it all - Chin, speed, power, flash, ability. He also didn't clown around as much there and he wouldn't get dumped on his backside by the likes of Kevin Howard. I think a pre retina problems Leonard takes him.

Always difficult to say with these sorts of fantasy match-ups, but if he can take a prime Benitez who was something else, defensively, then I think it's fair to say he could take a low output, shoulder rolling Mayweather.

Though Floyd would have adjusted his game to either, Leonard had more power and that's it; there'd have been 3 bouts between the to decide I think.

I think only a live pacman, with his movement and angles would be a competitive fight. I think floyd knows this.

I agree with you. Brook has to beat a Khan to get noticed, time will tell!
