17 years at the top and undefeated.
Floyd is up there.
17 years!

For me, he's not the best ever, but would have been a great in any era. I would have loved him to be at the top in the 70's/80's, but if he had been, what would we have been left with now?

Just a real shame he did everything possible to avoid a fight a couple of years ago with prime Pacman. For me that diminishes his legacy a little.
But imo there is no doubting Mayweather is a defensive and offensive genius.

You have to be totally, completely ignorant to the rich history of boxing to consider Floyd Mayweather its best ever fighter.
Totally, completely ignorant.

Not the best ever, Sugar Ray Robinson was the best, and he entertained in fights as well. Floyd is great no doubt, but his fights just lack something in excitement.

Here's a good rationale to apply when considering a fighter's historical value:
How many top 10 pound-for-pound fighters did they beat when the opponents were in their prime?
Canelo
Castillo
Hatton (arguably)
Corrales (arguably)

Who else is there, other than that puny list? Are you serious? If those are the only defensive fighters' names you can muster up then frankly your opinion doesn't matter.
A waning Whitaker showed superior defence against a prime De la Hoya than a prime Mayweather showed against an old, semi-retired De la Hoya.
Argh.

Pep. Bennie Leonard , Pernell Whittaker. I'd say those 3 off the top of my head were better defensively

As good as they were, they all were beaten and Floyd has not been in over 17 years.

Love Ray Robison,he was awesome ,but dont tell me that Mayweathers defence wouldn't enable him compete with anyone on anybody's G.O.A.T list

Ok, thing is Pep went 62-0 before he lost a fight, so he was unbeaten when he had the same record as Floyd at 45-0.
Anyway its each to our own, i see that Floyd is without doubt an all time great, but i just don't see him as the best.

why do you say that ? name one fighter that you have seen box that was better all round fighter than floyd .
it's easy to say harry greb had 299 fights he must be better or that sugar ray robinson only lost 1 of his first 120 odd fights but floyd would destroy jake lamotta who beat robinson .
i'm not saying floyd is the best ever but your answer is very condisending , i'll tell you one thing floyd is a way better boxer than Ali was who had terrible technique .

I dont think fans take in to account when comparing fighters from yesteryear to todays is that how much better athletes these fighters are today with better diets and scientific training regimes etc
I wouldn't say mayweather less attacking style is my favourite to watch, but there is no doubt in my mind with his slick defence/speed he could of competed with any great from the the past and more than probably beat them

Floyd would simply never fight a huge strong middleweight like Jake LaMotta, let alone hurt him, which makes this sentence as moronic as the rest of your post that I have mercifully abridged for you.
I could write about all the reasons you are wrong but it would be a waste of precious time on earth.

Don't think theres anyone one around now at welterweight or light middle to trouble Floyd, only test would be going up to middle to face GGG maybe, not sure if Floyd is big enough for that thou.

Floyd is great, but damages his legacy with his negotiating everything in his favour. Making hatton go up, Canelo go down etc. plus he's fought a lot of good fighters only when they've been found out.
But obv. He's class, a true great. Thing is, as good as he is, he bores me to tears, particularly out the ring with his tired, dated 'bling' act.
I'd like to see fighters talk more smack to him, show him less respect. They all admit to not liking him, but never run their mouths. I honestly believe that he's so attention seeking and needy that he'd be ripe for a bit of mind manipulation.
I know it sounds childish but it really wouldn't surprise me if he was a closet gay, him and 50 cent. I watched that all access show where he was basically paying attractive women to be seen with him in public, what does that tell u?
Side note: I wish people wouldn't be so damn aggressive when replying to posts they disagree with on here, there's no need for it, it's only a forum.

He's looking better and better the older he gets which is quite remarkable. I'm sure in 20 years we'll all be talking about the great floyd mayweather that's for sure. Definately one of the best.
