Ignore smart arse comments & go for it. Vic Control Board will have you judging a number of fights, and when satisfied with your competence will approve your application. Naturally, you'll be sitting ringside & handing your scorecard to ref..albeit invalid.

I would be interested to know how you go with your request and specifically what you need to do to become qualified to judge a professional bout.
I tried a number of years ago and it was ridiculously difficult but I suspect that may have been for a reason !
From memory I was told one would need to sit with a judge and keep a shadow score for 40 completed bouts, if a bout ends in a stoppage of any kind then the bout does not count towards your tally.
To further the sport I would have thought having more referees and judges would be a good thing especially in remote areas eg FNQ.
In these areas the judges and officials must be flown in at the promoters expense - I have done some shows and from first hand experience I can say these "officials " do not miss you when it comes to airfares, accommodation and parking at the airport.
May have more to do with people retaining there free travel and importance than furthering the sport

Number of Brisbane based officials ain't all that keen on distance travel, but at times, if Eric Norman & Chris Condon ain't available, they don't have choice.
Hence the reason at times ANBF Qld allows scoring ref & 2 judges & at times ref + 3 judges (one being fight super/recorder) in which case the other judges hand-in their cards @ end of fight.

I agree. There are a lot of older officials and we need some more young guys to get into officiating. Its suprising a lot of retired fighters don't have a go.

I almost did had the forms and everything but I think I'd like to train fighters at some point so I decided against it. I agree ex fighters should get involved.

I've boxed and trained fighters. Might not have been the best at either but been in the game a long time. Would like to have a go a ref and judging now that I'm too old to have a crack myself. Love the sport.

Nice one mate, I do a bit of work with a couple of Fighters at Extreme in Chadstone. My mate's the strength and conditioning coach for the fighters out of there as well as a few boxers, we've got a couple of kickboxers too. If you're on facebook, do what ever it is that you do on there with Tate Boxing.

Am planning on coming to Australia in the coming months, and was curious whether an American like me could get a license to judge boxing matches in Australia. Any information would be great. Jesus bless.
