Heavyweight:
Muhammad Ali vs. Larry Holmes; however the most exciting fight would more than likely be Jack Dempsey versus Rocky Marciano.
Cruiserweight:
Evander Holyfield vs. Virgil Hill; probably the most exciting fight that could ever be made between cruiserweight champions though probably would be Qawi and Jirov, brute pressure and strength versus iron will and determination.
Light Heavyweight:
Ezzard Charles vs. Sam Langford; probably the most exciting fight that could ever be made among light heavyweight champions, however, I would venture to say would be Archie Moore & Michael Spinks.
Super Middleweight:
Joe Calzaghe vs. Steve Collins; however, in terms of hypothetical matches, considering an awful lot of men were unable to compete at 168 because it simply didnt exist in their time and so many ATG's fit into that current weight class, I would venture to say Billy Conn vs. Bob Fitzsimmons or Jake LaMotta would have been the most exciting fights.
Middleweight:
Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Harry Greb; however the most exciting fight may of been with either one of those men against the likes of Bob Fitzsimmons--- in fact any one of those two against the ATG Top Ten of the Middleweight divisions history would have been one heck of a fight.
Junior Middleweight:
We already seen it in Duran vs. Hearns; a rematch between the two would have been interesting.
Welterweight:
Sugar Ray Robinson vs. Sugar Ray Leonard; there are so many atg great fights that could be made at this weight its almost pointless to list even some---- this is the dream division---- and for the most part we saw several dream matches in Leonard/Duran/Hearns/Hagler and others.
Junior Welterweight:
Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr; this is a division that goes through its ups and downs, at least in terms of being overated or underated--- but again, alot of fights can be made here.
Lightweight:
Roberto Duran vs. Juan Manuel Marquez; again another firecracker division in which some of the sports greatest fighters of all time competed---- and alot of great fights could be made.

So IRLangmaid believes that only one fighter prior to the 80's, and nobody prior to the 70's is good enough to feature in an all time world title bout? And Saad, yours must be tongue in cheek (I'm thinking particularly of your Cruiser and Heavy picks - Holy at heavy, but not at cruiser? ST Gordon ahead of Qawi, Holy, and Haye at cruiser? Frazier ahead of two men who beat him twice in Ali and Foreman at heavy? Not to mention Holmes and Louis and......etc etc)

He didn't say it had to be the two greatest fighters in every division, he asked for your all time fights. I assumed he meant the fights I'd want to see. Nobody else has a list that could constitute the top 2 either. The OP has Vitali Klitschko!
I'd rather see Holyfield/Frazier than any other Heavyweight fight. Evander was so dominant at Cruiser there isn't much that would be competitive. Gordon/Jirov would be awesome.

Interesting lists. The way I approached was to take each guy at the weight at which I consider him to have reached his pound-for-pound peak and limited him to that division, and then take my 2 all-time best at each particular weight. So, for super-heavyweight, which in my mind is, loosely speaking, 235 and above, it's a short list, say Lewis, Bowe, and the Klitschko brothers. Anyone else?
Some speculation too of course. For example, Jose Napoles was a terror at lightweight coming up and could have made jr. welter pretty much his whole career. He was a great, but small welterweight champ but really a natural jr. welter, I think. So, that's where I put him. Went through a similar line of reasoning to get Billy Conn at super-middle.
Anyway, just for fun.

My bad, I misunderstood.I'd take Bowe/Lewis there and I'm not going to cross the imaginary weight lines because it would make my head hurt. As for the top two in every division, several are the same for me.
Lopez/Calderon
Chang/Gushiken
Villa/LaBarba
Galaxy/Darchinyan
Jofre/Olivares
Gomez/Morales
Armstrong/Pep
Mayweather/Arguello
Duran/Leonard
Whitaker/Mayweather
Robinson/Gavilan
Hearns/McCallum
Hagler/Greb
Jones/Ward
Charles/Moore
Holyfield/Toney
Ali/Louis

Again, you have Toney as one of your top two cruisers of all time? I feel like I've stumbled into the wrong bar by mistake. Don't get me wrong, I love Toney, but probably the all time cruiserweight title fight actually happened, and it was Holy/Qawi. If not, it would be Holy/Haye, but Haye didn't do enough anywhere.

I didn't realise it was a top 2 in every division; I thought it was the hypothetical contests you would have liked to have seen.
I'll have to run up another list now.

There is a difference between all time rankings and whom I would call the best fighters in their best moment. You pick on that and ignore Whitaker/Floyd at 140 with a combined 4 fights? How many bouts did Fitzsimmons have at Super Middle?
How about you offer your own list?

Two natural cruisers for the all time heavy title, and Czyz as one of the two best cruiserweights of all time? The thinking behind this is a mystery to me.

My list, which will undoubtedly have holes in it, and will stop short of the lightest weights due to lack of knowledge.
Superheavy (if we're doing that) Lewis v V Klitschko
Heavy - Ali vs Holmes
Cruiser - Marciano vs Holyfield
Light Heavy - Moore vs Charles
Super Middle - Calzaghe vs Jones
Middle - Monzon vs Greb
Light middle - Hearns vs McCallum
Welter - SRL vs SRR
Light welter - Armstrong vs Whittaker
Light - Armstrong vs Duran
That's about as far as I can got without being REALLY sure I'm missing some important fighters. Not only would I love to see every one of those fights, I also think they're close to matching the best fighters every to contest those weights.

It's personal taste. They are the fights I'd like to see. I'm not picking the best.

Marciano a top 2 Cruiserweight when he never even fought there?
And if Holyfield is a 'natural' Cruiserweight than so is Ali.

Ali only weighed under the old cruiser limit for one of his fights, and only under the new one for the first few. Marciano at his heaviest was 1/2 pound over the old limit, never over the new one. Holy needed roids and weight training to be a heavyweight.
I realise that Marciano never fought at cruiser, but if the division had existed, he may well have. I couldn't in all conscience put him in the heavyweight final, but if he had been a cruiserweight, I think he'd have been top two.

Doesn't prevent it being the real, all-time light heavyweight championship fight, in my view. Of course, Ali-Holmes happened too, but I'd rather see it with different ages :)
