Didn't see the fight as I have been in portugal this weekend, how close was the fight in your opinions and was it a deserved victory?

114-114

Could've fairly gone either way by a few points in my view.

Cheers mate, yeah a few things I've read online have pretty much said the same, I haven't seen much of Ryder before but it seems like he's got a lot to offer after reading about the fight.

Think Ryder deserved it but he was never going to get it on a Warren show.

I want to know why the cards were so wide in the Butler/Gonzalez fight, at least through the early portion it was very tight.

Also Mitchell Smith can feel himself fortunate.

In fact most of the cards through the night were a bit...iffy

Saunders = second coming of Anthony Farnell!

I thought Smith won by a couple I was surprised it was so close.

As for BJS v Ryder. I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a draw. Saunders was fcuked at the end whereas Ryder was still coming on strong. Wouldn't mind seeing a rematch.

I gave it to Ryder by a round, but it didn't suggest to me that he's world class, rather than BJS is rather short of it. Early on, it looked like if Saunders would move and jab, it was easily there for him, but he didn't/couldn't. Decent fight though.

I thought it was an evenly contested fight, but Ryder looked to be landing the meatier shots at times.

Obviously Saunders mother having a stroke a few weeks ago, wouldn't be helpful to his preparations at all.

Is it true Barry Hearn was refused entry to the ring ?

I believe Hearn made it into the ring but was escorted out.

I had Ryder winning by a round. he should have forced the pace a bit more from the 10th round on, but he was just as knackered as Saunders.

Good fight for two soutpaws, which can produce some stinkers. I don`t think Saunders has the power to go much further than British level. he is a skilled boxer, but you have to be able to hurt guys at top level to stand a chance.

Ryder will come again.

As long as the WBO and Warren exsit... Saunders has a route

I had it 116-112 BJS, but I don't score even rounds based on that Ryder could've got a draw

I raved about Saunders when he turned pro , but i cant put my finger on whats changed my mind on him,is it me or has become feather fisted as hes matured ?Hand injuries ? someone put me right pls what is it :-?

I had him scraping by the other night ,but if i am honest i preferred John Ryder's work in the fight .

I had Saunders by 2 but couple of rounds where very close. I don't know what's missing in Saunders but there is something. Warren said he could move upto supermiddle, I personally think he should go the opposite way. I really do think he could make light middle.

After hearing all your views I think there should be a rematch, doubt it would happen though.

I would love to see a rematch. If Ryder had stepped it up a round earlier it could have well been a TKO win. BJS was not doing another round.

I thought that Saunders would win in a more authoritative fashion; he did say after the bout that his mother had suffered a stroke a week or so before the bout so that may explain a less than destructive fight. Saying that though; Ryder boxed very well - he is a very good inside fighter and came prepared for a 12 round fight. Saunders does look a bit fleshy and could lose a couple of kilo maybe, Ryder ought to get another chance.

I thought BJS won it by 3 or 4, surprised so many had it for Ryder to be honest.... Lots of close rounds, but it felt like you'd have to give Ryder all the close ones to have him winning 7. Decent fight, I think both are good prospects and will operate somewhere close to world level in another year or two. Ryder was definitely the stronger of the two but I thought he lacked a bit of creativity and ended up getting out hustled in the closer rounds. I'm not sure there is any need for an immediate rematch really, both looked good and can have a rematch somewhere further down the road when there's a little bit more on the line.... Saying that, I do think Ryder was wide open for the lead right hook and BJS could've made it real easy if he'd just boxed a bit more sensibly and lead off with that and just pivoted away a la Joe Calzaghe.

Has BJS got the right focus out of the ring ? Doesnt seem to take the game seriously enough based on some of the interview/tweets you see from him.

BJS won on workrate for me, Ryder was good but waited to long to let his hands go at times. BJS looked pretty stunned in the seventh and out of gas in the 12th. I'd like to see a rematch.

I had it 117-112 Saunders,i was also surprised it was that close, although my scorecard was wide, it wasnt that i thought Billy Joe totally dominated the fight,my score was quite flattering at first glance,i just thought they were a lot of close hustling rounds and i just preferred Saunders neater work but it was a hard fight to score and im certain every round i scored, roughly 50% of you guys agreed with me

Also in my defence,id watched Skys show the night before in its entirety inc red button went to bed,got up and watched all BN show, putting up with some stinkers(Gavin/Barnes=worst fight ive seen) so by the time Ryder fight was on,i was pretty deflated

Well matched them 2 though,no doubt about it,despite my scorecard

BJS lacks authority in his work. His punch power doesn't command respect, he lacks toughness and steel, he has a tendency to get disorganised under pressure and his conditioning is questionable. Most fighters with this roster of deficiencies would be going nowhere. However, BJS is exceptionally talented. His natural boxing ability got him through that fight with the excellent Ryder and I think will take him to a European title. But to go beyond Euro level, he needs to fill out and frankly grow up a bit.

I agree with most of what your saying apart from Saunders lacking toughness and steel, sure its not his forte standing in the trenches but he showed with Ryder he can give as good as he gets

Slick boxers tend to never get the respect they deserve when it comes to fighting heart

BJS is getting a bit of heavy criticism on here - and perhaps some of it is valid.

But you cannot argue that having such a serious incident with his mother wouldn't have made a difference.

His promoter having Barry Hearn took out the ring was stupid and childish though. I bet it triggered the legal threat today.

I had it for Saunders by 2 rounds and pretty much everyone around me ringside had a similar scorecard (i.e. for Saunders by a small margin). The rounds which Ryder won were won easily (i.e. they were won by a big margin) but they still count as a 10-9. Therefore if someone watched the fight without scoring individual rounds then it would appear as if Ryder won the fight but on a round by round basis I definitely had Saunders ahead. I think the judges' scorecards were spot on.

Yeah, whilst even on RBR I had it for Ryder by a round, it was close, and I didn't think it was a robbery. I thought Ryder should have put more into the 10th and 11th.
