David Price on Ringside

Just watched him and he came across very well. Said all the right things and was very humble. Always seems genuine and a nice guy.
However, is this a problem for him. Is he just not nasty enough? Can you be too nice in this game?

I think its more about his chin/ defence/ stamina than his attitude.... He has shown plenty of spite in his work when he has been on top in fights, it just all unravelled when he got hit back.

It was a shame, he looked like he lost a bit of confidence.
I still rate him and think he can go all the way. He would still beat Fury IMO

His chin and stamina will be his downfall everytime I think. You either have a good chin or you don't, its not something you can train to make better.

I thought Pricey looked like a guy still in shock over what has happened to his career. If you think he had total conviction that he was going to the very top with all the trappings that that brings and now he is a couple of fights away from having to pack it in and get a "normal" job.
That must be like having a winning lottery ticket then waking up to find that your dog has eaten it. It will take some serious mental strength to get back on track and you can see that his confidence needs building again. He appears to struggle with pressure and expectation.
He does seem to fancy Fury though and I think he could win that fight. I would not put him anywhere near Haye though.

My Mate was at an event and he met Derry and Price as well as Celebs who all joined a charity run, my mate said Derry was running and joking and didn't break a sweat but he said Price ran about half a mile was fucked, He told him "Us big lads dont tend not to do much roadwork like running" I understand he is a big unit but must be able to run a few miles, Cardio and Stamina is one the most important tools you can have, is it the teams fault?
That said he was a lovely bloke and very friendly, turned out to support an event he could have ignored.

Sweating a lot does not mean you are unfit. Some people do look knackered after a short run but that doesn't mean they cant carry on for another 10 miles. I wouldn't read much into what your mate said.
On the night he lost the rematch his conditioning was not right. The night got to him and he went into the ring like he had already done 7 rounds from nervous energy. He needs to build himself again. Not look to KO people and play with them for 5/6 rounds.
To say he is a couple of fights from packing it in is crazy. He has KO's everyone domestically, so what does that say about Sexton, McDermott, Sprott etc?? Price can still be a major force. It also winds me up when people say he is not nasty enough. What do you want him to do, bite an opponents ear and get banned? He has KO's virtually everyone, should he finish them off by stamping them on their head Roy Shaw style?!
I would steer him away from Chisora as that would not suit his style so I was a little worried about him mentioning his name yesterday evening. Get it on with Fury once he gets sparked out by Haye I say.
Go on Pricey, you can get back to being a contender again!

He lacks a lot in a few major areas: Chin, stamina, composure, ring intelligence & heart.
I think most of it can be improved a lot, but I don't think Price has it in him to transform himself.

One thing that wasn't mentioned about Price the rematch with Thompson was how awful his footwork was. Watching the fight again its the first time I saw Price as one of those big lads who just did not seem to be natural in anyway. It was like a watching a much better Kevin McBride in action.... Or a Nickolai Valuev.
Just hope that fight was a one off, ala Klitchsko vs Brewester.

Del Boy wouldn't be a bad fight for him in my opinion. Sure Del Boy is tough but lacks pop, is easy to hit and as Haye showed, has not got a McCall like chin. It would be another gut check, a winnable fight and one that would put him in prime position to fight the loser of Haye-Fury.
Although I now think Fury has more about him I have always thought that Price had a very, very good chance of knocking him out if they ever fought.

When Teddy Atlas talks about NBA guys having the potential to make decent boxers, that's what he's referring to. Some of those guys are freaky on their feet, amazingly agile, well-balanced, and relaxed - and they're huge. Amazing athletes.

Tennis players must have a bit of potential in that case. Almost unrivalled hand eye coordination and great footwork.

If Price and Fury fight, somebody is going to sleep. Fury has been on the deck against much lesser men than Tony Thompson, and Price hits way harder than anyone he's fought, and Fury has virtually no defence. On the other hand, Fury also hits harder than Thompson, and Price's chin is worse. Could go either way.

How many tennis players are 16 stone plus?
Karlović is 6'10" and 16 stone 7lbs. He's definitely an outlier though.

Can't they fight in a lower weight division?

I would confidently pick Chisora to stop Price.

I suspect Price is one of those fighters protected by the amateur game to some degree. More padded gloves, 3 round contests, soft refs and stoppages. I don't think he's built for 12 rounds and hard-core pro boxing at the high levels.

I'd pick Haye, Fury and Chisora to stop Price fairly easily at the moment.

Horse, whilst it's in my train of thought, how did you score McDermott vs Fury 1?

Anyone who didn't know Price was chinny obviously doesn't watch enough amateur boxing.
He needs to embrace that and find a style which protects that weakness....didn't do Wlad any harm

Think you nailed it ...he had a good amateur record but was still a bit suspect to a KO... he is a thoroughly decent chap... IMHO i dont think he had that sparkle in his eye or the heart to really wanted to continue fighting.... the losses to Thompson looks to have taken that out of him....
