Cleverly at Cruiser? ....

I'm at the annual boxing awards in London and Clev said he's seriously considering moving to Cruiserweight! He may also move to a certain London based trainer.

Hmmm ... I think Cruiser would be a risky option with the huge leap in weight .....

Cleverley too small for cruiser.

Thought he'd have been more likely to make 168?

I think he will go to Adam Booth. I agree that he is probably too small for Cruiser but it's not the most talented division

I think 168 would suit him better than cruiser. He's fairly tall, but he's very lean and will be giving away quite a bit of size if he moves up, and despite his length he is essentially a face-forward brawler. I don't think that's a good style to utilize against significantly bigger opponents, especially when you don't have much power even at 175.

Also, while CW may not be the strongest division, it has some good talent and I feel it's quality is generally underrated.

Indeed. I expect his new trainer (if he gets one) to advise him against a move to Cruiserweight.

Knowbody knows there body better then a fighter.
What I struggle with is clev was going to box froch at a catchweight so if he felt he could come inside 175 cruiser is unrealistic especially for his style skill set etc.

I think the risk in boxing is from ill advice from coaches.look at Liam smith IMO the most improved professional boxer IMO happy to do welter & could do it which amazes me jg made a great decision there in giving him the confidence which is the main thing because if people don't believe in you that are around you saying you should come down it knocks you badly & you lose belief & go against yourself.

We all read into as fighters & fans that, oh this champion comes down from this they are giants bla, bla, bla.
Look at the worlds best & strongest fighters if they were guided by most it would be you can drop
Froch
Mayweather
Ggg
Martinez
All walk around 3-6 lbs over if that
I think the sport has evolved in athletic terms & science. It's allway's lacked & been behind. I think the late fighters of the 50's & so on boxed regular weighed on the day so never really cut weight as much I think it's slowly going back to people building themselfs at there given weights

Light heavy is the right weight for Cleverly, there's no need to mess with that, I wouldn't have any of those 4 as the strongest fighters though and only 1, possibly 2 as the worlds best.

Who is stronger then froch at 12st???
Ward aint even as strong as froch on strength level.
Who is stronger then ggg at middle???him & Martinez could both do 11st maybe not Martinez now but he could get down.
Who can push mayweather around?? Not even l.middles he weighed 10-6 on the night v Alvarez

If he cut the weight it's the best place for him or either a classroom teaching maths. Kovalev destroys him he doesn't last 5mins at CW.

Ward clearly was stronger than Froch. Way stronger in the clinches right from the word go. Carl looked shocked by it early on.

Yeah it was very apparant that Ward was a lot stronger than Froch. I read an interview with Ward a while ago that Ward's dad had him pushing old cars round a scrap yard near where they lived from 12 yrs old to develop his strength. I doubt there's anyone between 168 and 175 stronger than Ward.

cant see him competeing at world level at cruiser but having said that i would say its the weaker of the 2 divisions and will probably get a shot at a title quite quickly and its not inconceivable that he could outhustle someone and snag a title and be a 2 weight titleholder. its a risk but it could pay off nicely and he could do an enzo mac and take on safe defenses for abit

Enzo did that in the safety of Joes undercards. I don't think the Welsh will back Clev to do that and I don't think FW will either. The last bout was clearly to get HBO involved. A sink or swim time. He can't have been making FW a penny or he wouldn't have had him boxing all over the place. I bet he cost him money.

Fair point about the money but will they still be intrested now? FW may try and buid him up again with a few title defences to the public then again this is all hinging on the fact he does win a title which he isnt guaranteed to do. with the copper box leased regularly and talk of season tickets coming about maybe he will be able to put him on as a headliner with guaranteed money in the bank (if the season tickets do materialise)

I think he will only get hard fights, after perhaps one or two warm ups for crap money.

Jones, Lebedev, Wlodarczyk, Hernandez, Chakhkiev and Ross, just to name a few, Arslan and Alexeev if you want a couple more.

Wouldn't the extra pounds negate his hand speed and work rate. Some of his best assets.

Huck is going over old ground and he holds Frank's favourite belt. I'm sure Nathan could quickly be shoe horned into a British title shot against JLD and then be manoeuvred into a shot at either Arslan (who was screwed over last time) or Huck next summer. Frank has never had a problem sending his boys to Germany.

I would like to see Clev vs Chavez Jr at LH, couldn't call the winner either.

I didn't think Arslan was screwed, it was a close fight that could've gone either way and I had Huck pipping by a round or two (my score is somewhere) I was looking forward to the rematch!

I'd like to see Chavez at LHW vs Vera before making a prediction on that!

As a come forward, swarmer with good hand speed and lack of power, CW is not a direction to go in, in my opinion. Nathan might do ok but he just does not have the style or the power to reach even the same level of success he had as a LH.

SMW would make more sense but maybe, he really can't make that weight, in which case, stick to LH.

I think he has a lot more success at CW than he ever would at LHW. I look forward to a big domestic fight with Ola Afolabi.
