I am looking for info about my father Jimmy Smith who Passed away September 26th 2013. He fought a fella named Jimmy Carter, Vic Cardo etc..etc.. his brother was Irish Johnny Smith who fought in New York my dad Jimmy Smith fought for the U.S.M.C. boxing team at Cherry Point and continued his career in Oakland/Richmond California. I believe the Gym was called Stillmans? I believe his last professional fight was October 13th 1959 to Jimmy Carter. If any one can help me that would be great I am making him a web page: http://www.irishjimmysmith.com you can send any lead to the web e-mail! thanks! :bag:

I'm sorry for your recent loss. I found the clip below in the Oakland Tribune the 22nd Nov 1957 the day after the first Vic Cardot fight. I suspect this was not your father's pro debut as it was a 6-round affair and there is no mention of it being his debut. If he fought before that though I don't think it was in Oakland.
Do you know what years he was in the USMC?

I found this from the next day's paper, 23 nov 1957.
It is about Cardot but I think it is interesting because it refers to your father as "seasoned" which makes me think definitely he had fights before.

This is from The Oakland Tribune the day before the Chico Santos fight. I cut off the bottom part that didn't mention your father.

You should be able to copy and past all of them they're all from The Oakland Tribune. If any of them you can't copy just mail me and I'll send you the code I had to load them.

I don't know how sad that is, he reads pretty cool to me!
I mean sounds like he was a pro who got the most of what he had and never backed down from anything. How much more cool can your Dad be!

I don't have any relatives that took a fight with Jimmy Carter on just a few moments notice :)

As for copying them you should be able to copy them right from here, you don't have to go back to the Tribune.

I wonder if this person is him, probably is, right age, right size, same name, in Boston. I'll try to verify.

He might be the same, but since you mentioned that your father fought for the U.S.M.C. team before moving to California, he might have fought only as an amateur while in Boston.

Some other questions, was your father born in Boston itself or somewhere in its vicinity, was Jimmy (or James) Smith his actual birthname and do you also have biographical information on his brother Johnny?

I am so confused.... The more research and editing and content I put up online Jimmy Smith' page info changes and his wikipedia page changes too.... Someone told me I can avoid people from deleting my dads wikipedia by blocking? or deleting? making a personal page? I have no idea how any of this web stuff works and any help I can get to help Irish Jimmy Smith would be greatly appreciated just like the help you are all giving me now means so much to me! :TU:
